Today I need all the luck I can get.  I promised everyone homemade Calzones.  Not underwear mind you...  If you speak spanish you will know Calzone means underwear in Spanish.

I have to cook the hamburger, sausage and the bacon.  Dice the ham and olives.  Make the pizza dough from scratch.  The get everyones order of that they want.

They will have the choice these ingredients

Hamburger
Sausage
Pepperoni
Ham
Bacon
Pineapple
Olives
Onions
Mushrooms

We do this every other month.  Thats all I can do it takes half the day and by the time I'm done I hurt like the dickens.....

Pray for me everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I make them I usually have to make two for my sister. She will drive across town just to get them. She will call in her order just like Pizza Hut......

Thank god for a stash of extra pain meds

If you were closer I would even deliver them to you Whitebeard.....

Laurie,
First, I'm ROFL! Coming from an Italian family, I never knew what calzone meant in Spanish! I suppose I never got that far in high school Spanish class!!!

One of my cousins (see us Italians have cousins that do about everything!) owns a small local pizza shop. He uses our family sauce recipe, so it's great whenever I want something, I don't have to make it (although tomato sauce is out for me right now with my stomach issues).

I love to get calzones with just plain cheese in them. I'm a cheese freak and I love it! Just gotta watch - it's really hot when you take that first bite!

Good luck!

yeah  wonder if I would break child labor laws if I made my kids do all the cutting and dicing for your little road trip?????

We could lie and say they are 18.  They look it... yeah

So far its 5:00 pm and the only thing I need to do is make the pizza dough.  So far I'm about wore out.  I really don't think they realize how much it takes out of me doing this.  My kidneys are aching i can feel them radiating down to my knees.  But I love the look on there face when they see these 3 lb calzones.   Plus thye keep yelling out of there rooms when is it going to be done.  So I can smile now smilewinkgrin

But I will hate it when I'm finally finished.  I still have to make them.  But as they always say mothers food is so good because love is added.

PAlady I wish I had a cousin who had an itailian shop.  I would love to own one but then I don't think its in the future but I can dream  yeah

Plus I think if FJ gets the bus you can sit in first class...  Recline the seats back and listen to everyone laugh and talk while you drift of to sleep....

Laurie,
I may have to put someone's ipod in (I don't own one) while everyone is joking and eating chocolate!! That's just way too hard to bear!

I think it is high time those boys learned how to make pizza dough!!!!!!!! A good skill for them in adulthood. Give it some thought! But I definitely think chopping veggies is not breaking any laws. Should be manadatory! LOL

My cousin's pizza shop makes homemade dough. Too bad I can't ship you some!

Make me a cheese calzone! It's SOOO lo-cal! :-)

I'm pretty picky about making my dough.  I don't think I would ever teach them.  My daughter said on her 17 birthday I have to teach her to cook.  She HATES cooking.  Don't know why but she wants to learn.  I guess so when she goes off to college she doesnt starve to death.....

YES YES right now you could ship me some as long as it got here in the next 30 minutes... smilewinkgrin

Hi Laurie,

I hope the Calzone making went well & you survived! It's very sweet of you to do this for your family, despite your situation & the further pain that it causes you. I bet your calzones came out great! I've never had a "real" one, just one of the ones that the served in the high school cafeteria one day (I rarely ever bought my lunch, but I do remember buying lunch one time on calzone day). I think it had some kind of cheese in it. It was an "interesting" experience, but then again, all those cafeteria lunches are! smilewinkgrin

laurie- delivery!!! its great that you can do such a thing, cooking is a nice stress reliever unless of course you are a cp'er. i used to do make up porfessionally and by the time i would finish a client i'd be sick to my stomach from the pain of bending over, so i can relate to what you are talking about. good luck, and please don't hurt yourself!

Hi Laurie:

Can I be on the bus ride too? I LOVE calzones!

You sound like an amazing cook! I have a girlfriend who's italian and I swear she can make a gormet meal out of a can of peas!

I'm a decent cook, but my pain limits me and honestly out of all of my "limitations", that is the one I struggle with the most. I feel like the least I can do is cook my family a decent meal, but there are days where even that is just too much. So, my hat's off to you!

My oldest son will be leaving home for the first time at the end of this month to continue his studies at Cortland University 3 1/2 hours upstate, and I really want to cook him all of his favorite meals before he goes.

Laurie, great time reading this. By all means teach that girl to cook but do not wait until she is 17 yrs old lol. For some reason I did not teach my daughter even basics. Her brother knew how to cook more at 12 than she knew at 25. She did not know how to bake a potato on the oven, fry an egg, just simple stuff!! What her husband endured when she cooked, no wonder he had stomach problems lol.

Laurie, It sounds like you made your family a wonderful dinner. Those sound delicious. I do hope you are feeling better today. I understand the doing for your family and then paying for it later. I few moments of happieness for them often times mean hours of pain for us. I did learn that firsthand!!! I don't do alot anymore, then that brings the quilt for not doing it. It's like a catch 22 either way.

Laurie, I hope today is a relaxing one for you. Maybe even a left over that you can sit back a savor. And of course, may the pain be minimal as you recover from making everyone happy.

Hi Laurie,
Hope that the calzones didn't put too much of a hurting on you and that you were not to exaused to have one yourself! Being Italliano, I just love calzones, stromboli and of course pizza! I used to make all of them from scratch when my boys were growing up but now w/ my weight problem, my wife doesn't want me to make them and unfortunately she's right! I had NO CONTROL of myself! When I smelled them cooking I could hardly wait along w/ all my son's friends who seemed to be able to smell them all the way down the street!! I am what is called in Itallian a "Gavone!" and I have the "Labanza" to prove it! Y'all probably knoticed that if you saw the picture of Father John and myself but what you don't know is that I was holding it in so much for the photo, it was painfull!!! Geeze, now I'm hungry> who am I kidding, I'm always hungry! Think I'll go get myself something right now!
Hugz Y'all>>Your Big Hungry Friend>>

PS> Did anyone ever see the movie "Fatso" w/ Dom Delouise??? If not go rent it!!! It's my favorite movie!!! Not only does it remind me of myself but also my family back in Joisey!!!

Laurie-

For some reason...in my dad's side of the family...the girls always doing the cooking and cutting. Filipino thing. The guys dig the pit and roast the pig. But we'd sit there, rolling lumpia (Filipino eggrolls) for hours. We had lil girls and boys doing it...(mom's had to keep and eye on the little kids). So yeah...make the older kids cut and slice. An older daughter cook at the stove. And sit with the lil kids and roll them calzones.
