I was wondering if anyone has Atypical Trigeminal Neuralgia?  I do.  I find it difficult to ignore, get pain relief.  While at work it is Very distracting and the only real relief is taking Percocet, but I don't like how I get while taking it.  I take Ultracet, works pretty well with my Fibro aches and pains but not my face.

Well, if anyone can relate I'd sure love some feedback.

Thanx :-)

Hi Binki,

Welcome to the CP board! I don't have TN, but I do have facial pain with probable trigeminal nerve involvement. I have severe pain behind my eye, which began after an injury I sustained several years ago. It seems I have a very strange physiology, and so pain medication, and every other medication that we have tried over the last few years has been completely worthless. I'm seeing a new pain management specialist at a big teaching hospital next week to pick her brain & see if there is anything left to try that offers promise of relief. My neurologist is also sending me to a neurosurgeon for evaluation to see if I am a candidate for a trigeminal nerve stimulator. Have you ever looked into something like this? I don't know too much about it other than that the leads are implanted subcutaneously onto the nerve, but I don't know whether the rest of the device is internal or external. I'll be learning more at my appointment next Friday. Have you ever tried having nerve blocks done? I know that stellate ganglion nerve blocks, which I've had done several times (unfortunately, without much success), are often done for facial pain. Maybe something like that could help you find some relief?!
