Drug free!!

Well, I just decided I couldn't take any more side effects of my medications.... so for the last two weeks I stopped taking all my meds.

Today is my first day of being drug free!

I thought I would have a harder time with the detox process but..... no.... I feel pretty good today..... colors look brighter..... food tastes better...

The really weird thing is my pain is not that bad off all my meds...... I always felt the meds never really helped me with my pain anyway.... I can now see it has helped my some... but very little... I would say I felt 20% less pain with the medication....

The last couple of nights I have slept through the entire night.... that hasn't happened for months and months.... I feel really rested.

This week I am getting Prolotherapy and Botox.... my Dr thinks it best for me to be put to sleep and so that's the plan... I guess he thinks there are just too many shots.... and my insurance is covering all of it.... so OK

I am having high hopes that this treatment works.....if not then I may consider some Oxycodone here and there but I won't take a muscle relaxer again (that's what kept me up at night with 2 to 3 trips to urinate each and every night) I won't take the Avinza (Morphine Sulphate, 24 time released) I found it really only gave me more side effects.... didn't do much for my pain and I just could never wrap my brain around the fact that I was taking Morphine!

Wish me luck... I'll check in after Thursday.

I was just thinking about you this morning and was gonna drop you a line after my shower. Last time you posted that they had increased your avinza to 60mg and you didn't like the effects. On my last PM visit I told them that the avinza wasn't making it 24 hrs so they had me take 30mg every 12 hrs. After about 4 days I started having nausea and light headedness with feeling very sleepy. I've went back to once per day again.

I hope you success with your shots, keep us updated when you can.

Lisa I sure hope the injections all work. My neighbor did really well with Botox for her neck problems. As for being drug free you know your body the best and as as long as your drs are aware of this then good for you. I honestly believe that some pain medications can increase a person's pain rather than decrease it. Keep us posted on how you come along.

Thanks so much for thinking of me Jag..... the thing that got me with the increase of the Avinza.... was a night terror.... it happened the second night after taking the increased dosage.

Never in my life (I'm 41) have I ever experience something so terrifying.... I woke up screaming and out of breath.... literally breathing heavy unable to catch my breath..... I am a grown woman but felt the need to place the pillows at the edge of the bed like it would protect me in some way.....

Really what was I thinking?

But again....never had that happen before... I was afraid to go to sleep.... I was all of a sudden..... afraid..... afraid to stay home alone.....afraid to get up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night alone..... afraid to sleep.....what the heck??????

Susie.... yup.... I called my Dr's office and spoke with the Dr's assistant and explained away the whole ordeal with the side effects.... they already knew I was not happy with the meds.... but now that I have tried them I know what they are like..... I now know how much they help or don't help with the pain.....

I just had to know.... because before I was screaming for some help.... I got it.... I got the meds..... I have now learned the pain was not really reduced for me with all the meds......

Already my urine is pale compared to the darker color with the meds... also it has no smell..... it really had a strong scent with the meds.

I am still waiting for my Tens unit.... with that I hope to stay off the meds for now.

Thanks everyone for listening to my journey.

I know what you mean with the night terror. I had a rheumy that insisted I needed Lyrica. It didn't help with the pain so twice she increased my dosage thinking that would help. Then the nightmares started with me screaming myself awake and being able to remember the dreams vividly. That was the end of Lyrica for me.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes...

Had the Prolotherapy today under twilight.... I think I got 21 injections... the back of my neck is soooo sore it's hard to lay down.... I am hoping though... I will be doing one treatment a month I think 4X's

....... DAY 2 OF BEING OFF ALL MY MEDS..... not so good.....not at all..... experienced some pretty bad withdrawal symptoms....I was in bed for two days..... nothing anyone wants to experience... trust me... I did taper everything down and I did talk to my Dr. throughout...

It's day three today and here I am.... I moved around today.... feeling things returning to normal slowly.

The withdrawal is pretty much done.... I feel totally wiped out... no energy.... I move around like a snail.... I wish I could sleep....as I really need sleep so I can start healing from the Prolotherapy. :(

I've been up almost all night for the last two days + tonight........

I'm sorry you are having a hard time w/ the pain from your procedure and the withdrawl at the same time. You are one tough cookie to try what your are doing!! I'm happy for you that you have chosen to stop the meds. Good luck my friend, my prayers are with you!!

Lisa,
I know it's a bit of a rough go now, but I give you lots of credit for trying some options. It's the only way you're going to know, right? Just remember you can always go back - or at least use a little bit of some type of med. if needed (if things get too much to manage). But I think it's normal you'd feel pretty wiped out right now. You've been through a lot. I hope you can give yourself some TLC now, and give your body a chance to adjust and then see how things are.

Here's hoping you're getting some rest!

Hugs,

PaLady

I'm sending big hugs Lisa, your poor body. Theres probably a bit of a half life in some of those meds you've taken so it takes awhile to get out of your system. I've been off 2 rheumy drugs for 3 weeks now and I'm only just feeling it now. I think they must build up in your system. How long does it take to withdraw from your meds? You are so very determined, I'm crossing my fingers for you.
I go through the dilemma of living on meds, feeling like I have them all rattling around in me, keep wondering whether I should try something alternative but too cowardly to give it a go. So I'm very proud of you, you take care of yourself, golitho

Today is day 6........ all symptoms of withdrawal are gone.... I slept last night for the first time in three days...... just still feeling worn out and very weak....

You know PAlady... you are exactly right..... I just wanted to know!

Golitho.... congrats on being off your meds..... it took me about a week and a half when I first started the detox process (coming off Amrix, Oxycodone and Avinza).... second day of being off everything was when the really bad stuff started.... it was about two days of misery.... you do have to tell your Dr... that's a must!

The real kicker is........... just now at 11:00 am reading this.... it made me think about my neck.... honestly it hasn't been in my every thought like when I was on the meds....

The medication always made me think of my neck at every twist and turn..... all the time.

I now feel I was making my symptoms worse constantly dwelling on it.

We'll see how it goes.... in the future I may need to go back to my meds... but hopefully never the AVINZA (morphine sulphate)... only time will tell.... at least I know now not to just pile on the meds.... I found out I don't need a muscle relaxer every day and that was what I was taking.

I also now know what withdrawal is like..... so I'll be hesitant to take meds daily

Yesterday my TENS unit arrived.... so far..... I AM LOVING IT!

Thanks everyone!
Lisa
