shocked  Okay, I went to my PM appt. today all prepared to discuss a change...I have been taking Methadone for many years and I have developed a tolerance...so I said this today.  I finally switched back to my favorite Dr. at the office and I just knew he was going to take care of me... He did..  At first he was going to increase my Methadone from 12 a day to 15 a day...and give me my regular Oxy IR's...Then it was like a switch flipped in his head...

All of a sudden he said NO, lets try this....we'll decrease the Methadone to 8 a day and add Opana ER 20 mg. 2 times daily...No Oxy IR's.  Okay, I am game if he thinks it will work better.

But, even though both meds are covered by TennCare you can only get one long-acting pain med at a time...so, they filled the methadone and put in a call about the OpanaER....

Then the nurse called and said for me to bring back the scripts and get new ones for the increase of Methadone and the OxyIr's...She left a msg. so I didn't get to talk to her...I went to the office but they only had the methadone script...no OxyIR's.  and I had already gotten the original Methadone filled earlier because they said they could get it straightened out about the OpanaEr...so I left without anything...

So, that is my ordeal of a day...How was yours?

Dani, Yes...tonight isn't all that great because I have nothing to take..but, It will be okay tomorrow.  My insurance will cover Opana ER but not with Methadone as well.  So, I will be taking 150 mg. instead of 120 and the Oxy IR 30mg. for the BT pain...I hope it makes a difference...if not, I will try the Opana ER next month with 80 mg. Methadone.
By then they should have it fixed with my insurance.

I was actually looking forward to trying something new. I have been taking methadone for so long now that I have such a high tolerance to it.  I was putting alot of faith into this new drug. but I'll wait and see, like usual.

Thanks for the Hugz....I'll need them tonight.  This wet and cold weather aren't helping...and sleeping is out of the question...I'll be up all night again.

Tomorrow is another day...

Geezee,
I'd be so confused! so I guess the Doctor wants you to take the Methadone and the OpanaEr and not the Oxy's from what
you posted...Hope the new medicine will help and hope you can get it soon...
Keep us posted and lots of soft hugz...

Hi Rhonda, it is upsetting when you feel its time for a change and your Drs stick to the old pathways. Sometimes we know our bodies so well, I hear you when you say you've been on methadone so long its not working like it was. Its a shame your doc didn't. Will the opana ER work in conjunction with the meth? I'm completely ignorant so excuse my silly questions. Will it enhance it, I guess is more what I'm asking?
Best, best, wishes and I'm crossing my fingers it helps, golitho

Rhonda,
It's so frustrating when our doctors want to try something that might actually improve our quality of life and insurance won't cover it. I sure hope it get straightened out for next month!
