Ok, this is a rant, if you are not in the mood to read one stop here.

I have a drs apt in the am at 9:30 to go in and get put on antibiotics one more time. My right foot is so swollen and leg, hot and red. The left is not as severe as the right. Its cellulitis, had it enough to know the signs now. Woke up with this yesterday morning and called  the drs office. I have a horrible outbreak of psoriasis on my feet and its pretty infected on the right foot and toes. My toes look like sausages. The bottoms of my legs are so sore and they just constantly ache. My feet is so swollen and sore there is no way of getting on shoes except flip flops, can't stand for anything to touch them. I am sleeping and laying with the feet elevated and staying off the computer some. Sitting with the legs down is not good either.  I have 4 different types of ointments to use for the psoriasis plus Humira shots that I am already on for crohns. The ointments are as greasy as all get out so have to be careful when using it as to not get itall over everything. My hands look like someone wih leprosy, so disgusting and nasty looking. They have raw spots, skin split open, dry spots, dark spots,  thick skin, sounds yummy huh? Humira is also used for psoriasis.  Why in the hell is none of this clearing upand going away. The dermatologist went straight to stuff he uses on his severe cases top of the line.

Bottom line, if the psoriasis would clear up, my cellulitis problems would end.The psoriasis is a constant source of infection. I have this knot the size of a dime that is sore, hot & red,its also filled with pus. I drained it because it hurts so bad, its a spot where I have psoriasis all down that arm and of course on the palm of that hand a place is infected.

I want it to stop, I want it to go away, I am sick of dealing with this every stinking time I turn around. I have had it.

Susie, I just don't know what to say. I hate to see you in such a state physically and mentally. How long did the dermatologist say before the various creams are supposed to help? All I can say is I will be thinking of you tonight and hope you can find some relief at your appt tomorrow. Try to relax and get some sleep, easier said than done, huh.

 Oh gosh Susie!

*warm huggs*  I had no idea the cream wasnt working! Do you have any other options for treatment?  I remember about 3 weeks ago the swelling in your leggs was reeking havoc on you , but had no idea it had gotten so bad!!!! I sure hope the antibiotics work this time. Do they have a plann in place if they dont work?  Something has got to give! You need atleast SOME mobility back, what are they thinking! It just isnt fair that you have to keep enduring through all of this right now.  I am so very sorry! *warm huggs* Oh gosh, I wish there were something, anything I could do! *huggs* You are in our hearts and prayers here.

Hi Susie:

I am so sorry, I know you are terribly frustrated! I'm so sorry that you have to deal with any of this let alone so much at once. I had cellulitis once, and I know it is very aggressive and scarey. I will be praying that you are able to get a handle on it quickly!

Hugs,

Suzie,
At times I feel that if you and I knew each other better we would be solemates in medical misfortunes and maladies. I am not playing down your misery at all. I understand...I truly understand. I have a pain pump and an SCS for chronic pain related to a rare degenerative brain disease. This disease has affects both nerves and muscles, so like you I also have respitory diseases and require Oxygen. Somewhere down the line I was also blessed with colgenous colitis. I am fortunate it is not full blown chrons like you suffer with, but I more than understand digestive difficulties. At times I am the queen of the "Realm of L.S." definition: Loose Stools to say it to dignity. I certainly spend enough time on my "throne" to prove it. It seams like no orafice has been untouched. Chronic dry mouth from med.ications and a shoebox full of different of respitory inhalors. Skin crude exaserbated by stress --treatments always include to goopest and greasiest ointments known to man. Prematurue osearthritis with added steriods., etc, etc, etc, Each new med adds about 20 lbs. Suzie, when ever I read that tag line, that what affects us most only makes us stronger. Or better get God would not give you what you could not handle. I might be handling it, but I have lost alot of so called friends and familu along th way. Like you I also ended up injuring my ankle. The ortho keep saying it was a sprain, but since we can't get MRI's did not go any further. I jerked around with him and him lag and ankle braces - along with endless PT. after 6 month I got a second opinion and a CAT scan. My dam* ankle had been broken and untreated for 6 months. The constant twisting in PT pull the joint so far apart it will never heal properly. So Suzie, whenever you feel like you can't take any more - call me because I understand where you are coming from. Remember, nobody said life was going to be fair. So of us are Prom Queens ours of us have our own special thrones.

I feel at times that you are a cybersole mate in medical misfortunes. I am not making fun of your misfortunes in as way - we just realize what it like to say those dreaded words "what else could possibly happen" and just when we finish the sentence we sometimes find out!

God bless. if you do not laugh you will never make it through this life same or semi-sane.

Take care and you are in my prayers tonight.

Does your psorasis get worse in the winter/cold weather? One of my friends has psorasis that flares up in the winter, she has it terrible in her hands and other places. She actually tans in a tanning bed and it releives the symptoms, redness and pain in the worst spots. I hope you can find a solution and feel better. Cory

So sorry, Susie.  I have a friend with chronic cellulitis...is going through it right now after getting a mosquito bite on his legs.  High raging fever and on 4 heavy duty antibiotics as he gets it so often the meds are becoming resistant.  It's miserable.  My DIL has a form of arthritis that comes from psoriosis (I have fibro fog and can't spell the name of it), is on Enbrel and hasn't seen much improvement either.  She too is very disappointed that she hasn't gotten much relief.  I know she has mentioned going to tanning boothes at her dermologist's and rheumy's suggestion, and she thinks that helps some with the sores.

Go ahead and rant!

Susie,

You have every right to rant!  This sounds awful and you must be miserable.  Your infections sound very serious and painful!  I hope you can get this cleared quickly with antibiotics.  And you are right!  This needs to stop!  I am thinking of you.

Hi Susie:

You have been on my mind all day, I'm hoping that you did not have to be put in the hospital for IV antibiotics!

Thanks so much for replies and well wishes gang, so much appreciated. Then, I feel bad for coming here and dumping on everyone. I tell myself no one wants to hear it. Normally I am able to keep my maladies to myself. I guess this this time I just blew a gasket. It like I am fighting this battle non-stop with cellulitis and this psoriasis and I am not able to get a handle on it. The stress from breaking my arm also has caused breakouts of psorias, stress is a trigger, how do I avoid stress, ugh, I don't know.

I saw the PA this morning and he made arrangements for me to go to an infusion center for IV Rocephin. Its a really strong antibiotic. I will do this for 8 days and see where we are at. He warned me of it potentially inducing not only a crohns flare but an ulcerative colitis flare. I knew this, have been down this path before with antibiotics and got really sick with those two flaring and rearing their ugly heads at the same time. The odds are right at 5% of having both bowel diseases and even my gi was shocked when the path report came back positive. He said he knew my symptoms were more UC related than crohns but after a couple of scopes there was no denying it. But, he conceded I do get alot of weird things so why were we surpised. Stella Marie and I have alot in common on spending lots of times on our thrones, lol.  I have started on a really good Probiotic so we will see, plus I like yogurt. If you have any left over change buy stock on whoever makes Cottonelle TP. I want the soft  stuff no sandpaper or corn cob stuff for me.

I have thought about joining a tannng salon, although I cannot lay in one because of the pump in my stomach, but I thought you know I could put my feet and hands in one if I sat in a chair. I plan to talk to the dermatologist about this. I know light therapy can be effective.  Before my pump I joined a tanning salon for my aching joints, it felt so good going in there and laying down and letting the heat hit them. But my gi dr had a fit and said he had not invested so much of his time and energy trying to get me well only to lose me to cancer, so he put an end to the tanning bed. I had no psoriasis outbreaks either during this time.

My blood pressure was off the scale but he says he thinks its all fluid retention causing this, as I do have some fat feet and legs right now. He changed up one blood pressure pill and added another diurectic to an existing one to try and get this fluid off. So,wish me kuck, I need lots of it right now. Gentle hugs to all.

You are in my thoughts. I can't imagine having to live with what you are going through. I've had water weight gain and have been hospitalized but not the psorias and knowing that tanning does help with that. When I lay in the tanner I lay on my back so it wouldn't matter if I had a bump on my tummy, which I do because I have an ileostomy. If tanning helps with that I'd go for it to get it under control anyway.

Hi Susie, so sorry you're going through all of these conditions all at once.
My friend with psoriasis also uses a tanning booth when its out of control. She said you have to use it when its bad as no creams or ointments work. Like all our treatments you have to weigh up one side effect for the good it brings. Like the humira has the risk of triggering lymphomma or MS in people prone to those infections. So skin cancer just has to be added to the list, get your body checked once a year by a skin cancer specialist. We do that just from living in Australia, go to a skin cancer clinic and get checked out, they go over your body with a magnifying glass and they know what they're looking for. I'd go for the sun tan clinic, it can't hurt at this stage.
Best wishes to you, golitho

Susie... Sorry it's taken awhile for me to post. My husband has psoriasis really, really bad. He's been on Enbrel for awhile; it helps but hasn't cleared it completely by any means. So, I totally feel for you and what you are going through. He had it so bad on his scalp a few years ago, he shaved his head - he was desperate!

I remember reading, a few posts back, about you considering going to a tanning salon for just your hands/feet/etc. At the time, I remember thinking that was a really good idea. Have you thought more about that? (ok...I wrote this before reading your second posts...I see that you are considering it!! - as I said, I think that's a great idea).

Please don't feel bad about venting about all of this. You are going through so much...so vent away. We all care about you and just want you to feel better.

I wish there was something I could do to make you feel better but all I can do is put you up at the very top of my prayer list?? DONE!!

I really hope the new anti biotic treatment helps and does not set off the other 2 problems! You are so brave to take the chance, You are my HERO!!! I only wish I had your courage!!

You all are the very best that's all I can say.

Golitho I plan to check out some tanning places here in my neighborhood. We have several and I did belong to one several yrs ago.

Forgot to mention on my way home from doing the antibiotic therapy I started feeling rough like a bug was coming on. I was running a fever earlier in the morning, but the body aches and nausea caught me. I came home and went to bed-feeling a little rough right now still.
