Hello to all of my pain friends...

Ok, you have all heard the saga that is Me...about how I was going to change meds but couldn't...and here is the next installment.

I went to the Pain Doc...after I had my 3rd UA in over 6 years I waited in the "ROOM" hoping that I wouldn't be seeing that "new" NP...anyway, my fave Doc came in..Oh happy day!!!  All I said was "I want to go back to the way things were"...He said "ok, what were you on? Oh, Methadone 120 mg. and Oxycodone 30 mg.....Hmmmm 3 a day? "  No, 4 a day...That was about it.  Oh, I almost forgot that I asked seriously about the Pain Pump...
I wanted to know if I was even a candidate for it.  He said I would have to try the Neurostimulator first...What!!!  That's the first time I had heard that.  Now, Pain pumps don't scare me, but those neuro thingys do...I met a girl in the Hospital that was there because hers was infected and coming out of her stomach on it's own....that freaked me out!!

He said that because of me being on TennCare I had to go that route first...do the whole trial and see if that helps.  If not, then he could check on the pump..

So, I'm happy about my visit.  Even though the Methadone doesn't help as well at 120 mg. I got my Oxy Ir's back... I really didn't even know how much they helped until I didn't have them...

Oh me, I'm glad you got what you wanted, some doctors are definately a waste of space, oh for the listeners...so what is the neurostimulator (like a tens unit?) Sort of zap the nerves job? Why do you need to use one of them before the pain pump option is on offer? Is this like a tick the boxes job, if this fails then that?

Sorry for all the questions, I hope it all works out for you, best wishes, golitho

golitho,
The stimulator is surgically implanted, like the pump, and they put "leads" into your spine and shoot current into your spine at certain intervals...I think they have to try "everything" for insurance reasons...I think the Pump is a last resort. My Doc said that the Pump has long term effects...it can change the hormones in your brain and you could have other things happen..but that's the big one he mentioned...

I am one of the lucky ones...I never had to "ask" for a PM Doc, my PCP referred me years ago...and all the Docs in this practice have always given me what I need for pain relief...

I go back on Dec. 18th and then I find out if my insurance even covers the procedures at all...then we'll go from there.

Have a great Thanksgiving...

I hope your insurance will cover this procedure...I've been thinking about those, don't forget to read the
back posts of the implanted neuro stims, FatherJohn has a posting on those and do a google search on them
so that you can get the right one for you...I sure wish you good luck on the trial for it..
Hope you get a low pain day soon...Keep us posted on this...

THanks everyone, I really appreciate the concern. Although sometimes I feel a little bad because there are so many people here that are in much worse shape then me..I should be grateful for what I DO have....
