Hi everyone,

I normally am on the crohn's forum but I am at my wit's end and was hoping I could get some ideas from you. A few weeks ago I started having diarrhea. I assumed a crohn's flareup, but also got my doc to test for a c-diff infection, which was negative. The diarrhea continues, and then I developed fevers and body aches. I thought virus or maybe they were wrong about the infection. The fevers didn't last long, but I am left with extreme pain in random areas of my body: both calves, both sides of neck, whether moving or not. Also some joint pain, swelling and redness. My darvocet only seems to make it bearable for a couple of hours. Then when it gets bad, I am in tears and can barely walk. My docs ran some blood tests but nothing seems to be out of the ordinary. I feel like my body is dying and forgot to tell my brain! Do any of you have anything like this, or any ideas? My docs just tell me to go to the ER if it gets any worse, and believe me the morphine is calling.

Thanks for your help.

Hello Heatmiser! I know nothing of what could be causing this, but I'm going to go way out on a limb here and ask if they have done any testing for Lyme disease? I just got off the phone with another member, and some of the symptoms sounded so familiar to me in your post. Sorry if this is just a dumb guess on my part. I wish you the best, and hope they find something soon for you. Please let us know what they find out.

No they haven't mentioned lyme disease. I just scheduled an appointment for later in the week if I can make it til then. I'll go look up symptoms now for lupus.

thanks!

I sure you find something out, and I will be here rooting for you. It is tough, and can be lonley, and I'm sure you have moments where you are just plain scared. We all will be here for you. I will be having surgery in a couple of weeks and I'm scared to death about it. Hang in there.

Glad you dropped by the chronic pain forum Miser. My thoughts are on the same lines as Screaming Eagle. Fibromyalgia popped into my head first but possibly lupus or lyme disease too. With the pain being on both sides of your body and being on the upper & lower quadrants of your extremities and with the feverish feeling fibro is my first choice. Fibro can also cause bowel issues.

Maybe you could talk to your doctor about running some bloodwork to check for any auto-immune diseases, sorry to say there is no distinct test for fibro other than ruling out other causes and then going by your symptoms.

Good Luck and keep us posted if you find out anything.

((((((((heatmiser))))))))). Sorry you are feeling so lousy. I wish I could help, but I really don't know anything about your condition. Maybe talk to your doctors about changing your meds? Darvocet is a very weak pain medication. I know that sometimes people with Crohn's can't take opioids, but if you can, I'd think about asking your doctor for either an increase or a med change, even if temporary. Sorry I can't be of more help! I hope you feel better soon!

hugs,
Skeye

Heatmiser, I too have CD and feel for you. Have you discussed this joint pain with your gi dr? There is such an animal as CD arthritis, happens to many CD folks. I am surprised that the peeps on the CD forum has not talked about this, it is very common. I hope you can get some answers soon. There are many good articles to read about this here at HW.

Thanks everyone,

I went to the ER on Valentine's Day and they did a spinal tap to check for meningitis but they really didn't think that was going to be it. Today I noticed some lab results were back and it was positive on the ANA test....rheumatoid arthritis and lupus came up. I see my pcp tomorrow. I'm trying not to freak out too much til then but I can't imagine having anything else to deal with in my crazy life. They did get the pain under control in the ER but of course that only lasted a few hours after I left. The vicodin and valium really only help a bit. I've been in bed ever since, shuffling in excruciating pain to the bathroom due the the diarrhea. My house has stairs...how fun that is!

Straydog, they did tell me I had cd related arthritis. This pain has been more muscle, but also had joint swelling and redness which is new for me. They also dxd ulcerative colitis this past summer. Haven't actually been able to tell me if I have one or the other, or both. I feel like I'm falling apart and as I look as your list of problems I wonder how you deal with it all?
