Dear friends , I havea cellulitus like disease in my right leg and I need a hip replacement .It is about  2-3 months using a walker to get around . I hate it but I would'nt be able to get around at all unless I used the wheelchair .Since using the walker I've noticed a tingling and numbness  in my fingertips ,it doesnt go away .I 've made an appt with the ocupational therapist to see if there is any connection , if I'm using the walker right , if its at the right height etc .I hope its something like that , Does anyone else have a similar expierence ? If so how did handle the pain . Thanks mikel

Wow man, that is bad and I'm so sorry you are dealing with this among the other painful things. My Mom was using a walker for a little while and she started having those types of complaints. I was worried to pieces, but we found out she just wasn't using the walker correctly. I prayer it's that simple for you and everything is going well.

   Dear Mike,

Good evening *warm huggs* I am glad you stopped by. How are you feeling tonight? Were you able to relax today? I sure hope so.

I am very glad you will be talking to your OT about it, but, you might want to mention it to your primary care physician aswell. With your medical history it could very well be something more is going on. *hugg* I too have numbness in my fingertips (toes and lips sometimes too) , but for me it is something called "Paresthesias" and a "symptom" of another medical problem. So, I suppose what I am trying to say is I am just a little bit worried and I hope you can give your doctor a call and touch base with him/her reguarding this *hugg*

I hope you have a nice evening. You are in our hearts.

*hugg*

Hi Mikel,

Sorry to hear about the numbness, that is certainly no fun! Perhaps you are hitting a nerve in your hands when you press on the handle of the walker? Maybe you could try padding the handle with something - wrapping a small pillow around the handle, or something, & that might help? Does your walker have wheels on it, or is it one of the ones that you have to lift up? If it is one of the ones you have to lift, maybe one that you could push might be easier on your hands? Seeing an OT is a really good idea, but I'd suggest definitely bring it up at your next doctor's appointment as well. Numbness isn't something that you want to mess with. I hope you can get to the bottom of this & fix it!

hugs,
Skeye

Thanks Skeye , I'm using a rolator , thats is it has 4 wheels with two hand breals on a bicycle like handgrip .I've wrapped the handgrip with towels or anything cushion like I can find, but iI don't know I have to use it so often ,I'm pretty much waiting to see whar the OT will say unless I see my new doctor first ,thanks so much to all .

Hi Mike,

I agree with Catz4, I am hoping you are just using that walker at an incorrect height.  Perhaps just a change in the height temporarily can change the angle of pressure on your joints, hands, wrists etc.  I am just guessing however.  I have numbness and tingling in my lower legs. My feet are pretty much completely numb.  I get that icy-hot feeling every afternoon around 4.  It depends upon how much I was on my feet that day.  I haven't found anything that relieves the pain and odd sensory junk.  Some find that lyrica or neurontin helps.  Others have said Klonopin. Good luck!  I hope you can find something that helps.

Mikel,
How are you doing today?? I really hope much better! I wanted to tell you something, I don't know if you will read my little "well that's weird" post again so, I wanted to tell you that you said something that really had an impact on me this morning. You were talking to WhiteStone and you said, “making peace with the present moment”. Man that was like G-Force right in the face. You’d think it was a simple concept, but no, not really! I may not be able to keep that in my mind all the time, but right now it’s there and I thank you. As the pain heads for that level 10 (lol, right, more like 50!) it’s hard to breath much less think! But right now the pain meds are giving me a little relief *yeah* and I’m down to a 7 or 8 during this time period right now where I took the meds about an hour ago. I just wanted you to know that it’s true, you can have an affect on someone’s life in a split second and even when you weren’t talking to that person. I hope your hands are better today, are they? Let us know!

Dearest Catz4 and Gretchen1 , thanks so much for your caring and your words , they come thru cyberspace and touch my heart and make smile ,thru this computer comes forth humanity with your caring , its just amazing . Yes Catz4 its a concept I am learning and beleive all we ever have is the present moment , we can remember what we did and think about what we'd like to do in the future but the present belongs to us .To embrace the uncertainty of the future is the key .We are so taught to try to control everything accepting that we can't is difficult but therein lies peace .Sure one can prepare or have expectations ,based with the beleif that what will be will be and when it happens it will be in this present moment .It takes time to grasp after thinking one way all my life ,led by my ego , and realizing this is faulty is tough .But once the knowledge of the truth is in your self , you have a great opportunnity to find peace. Hello Mikel! I was just laying here this morning, a wondering how you are doing. You have turned out to be a pretty helpful member here, even though you have been suffering a lot. Keep up the good work, and I hope you get to feeling better soon.

Hey Miekl! Peter will appreciate it, Im sure! I have done the same thing myself, as I firmly believe in this site and the good that comes from it. I wish you the very best my friend, and hope the new Dr can do something for you. Right now I'm feeling pretty lonley, and may have to go through the surgery by myself. Weird how things turn out! :( when you least expect it. Life can be the pits at times, and I feel so sick, and hurt so bad right now. Lets try to hook up in the chat room this week if you can.

Hey Mikel,
Sorry to hear you are having trouble. I've used a walker several times and know the adjustments that they make as far as raising and lowering and the bend of your elbow play an important role in your body mechanics. Hope it is something that simple for you as you've been through enough my friend.
