I'm starting a new thread for this one so you all see it as new. Mrs. E just called from the hospital and she put SE on the phone. He said to tell you all he is doing fine. He sounded a little ruff but considering he just went through 7 hours of surgery he sounded WONDERFUL... I'll update as I hear.

Hi Michael,

You shouldn't be on the computer yet! Follow your doctor's orders & rest! But on a more selfish note, I'm glad that you posted & that everything went well. I hope the pain subsides some & you are able to get some sleep. You're in my thoughts & prayers.

hugggggs,
Skeye

Michael,
You really shouldn't be in that much pain, IMHO. Please be sure to report it to your doctor/nurses so they can make adjustments to your pain management. Usually post-surgical pain is covered fairly well, but yes, as Skeye said don't be overdoing it, even with something as simple as typing on a computer.

If you have a morphine pump make sure you're pressing the button as often as you're permitted. I know I would forget, and so after a day or so was put on oral meds. I was in surgery 6 hours, but I never remember much post-surgical pain. It was very well managed. Ask for some help with it.

Hi Make sure that you ask for your pain meds if they have taken you off of the pump. I am sure all of this experience will be just a little foggy. Take care of yourself, and we will talk to you very soon when you are at home recouping!! Just remember that all this will end soon, and you will be in the comfort of your own home and bed.

Mikey,
After my cervical fusion I was in agony! I didn't want to tell you that before your surgery but it was definitly 10 on a 1~10 scale! None of the meds helped me either! They said it was because of the methadone I was taking prevented all the other stuff from working!
I hope thats not the case with you and you are comfortable w/ whatever they give you!
Hang in there buddy, you have been through the worst part and it's all down hill from here on!
Take it easy and stay off the puter!!
Pete

Thanks for the update very good to know surgery went well. Now, the hard part starts, recuperating and behaving one's self and following drs orders. The first 3 days after surgery are normally the toughest, then things start evening out somewhat.

crohns disease dx 2002 & small bowel resection, still looking for remission whatever that is, chronic pain 22 yrs, added ulcerative colitis 6-05 to the mix, high blood pressure 28 yrs, aortic heart valve insuffiency, depression, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis lumbar spine, scoliosis lumbar spine, peripheral neuropathy hands & feet, COPD & on oxygen therapy, lupus & psoriasis and psoratic arthritis. Several other health issues just not enough room to list it all. Too many surgeries to list and too many medications to list. Currently on 17 different daily medications. Intrathecal pain pump implanted June 05.

Michael had a very rough night. He kept asking for more pain meds and they would up them more. He was sleeping heavily by 9am. I thought it best to let him sleep since he hadn't slept at all last night. When the evening nurse came in she said he was only breathing 13 times per minute and the dose was too high. They had to take him off the pump and give him a drug to wake him up. Not sure how long till he can have pain meds again, but he is already moaning. It's going to be a long night.

I am so sorry that Michael is in so much pain, & I know that it is so hard to watch someone that you love suffer that way. Please remember that it is temporary and he will be o.k. Please tell him that he has a whole lot of people here who care for both of you and you will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Please update us when you can.

Lots of love and very soft hugs!

Oh my dear friend micheal, how i wish i could be at your side and be your private nurse, I would make sure you would not have pain nor suffer, i would wash you face gently with a warm cloth, give you a small drink of water, rub your hands, and play soft music while sitting at your bedside holding your hand. I can't stop thinkink about you and I am so hoping that you are not suffering endlessly. If so,please ring for that nurse button. I know you have your gentle wife at your bedside and she will make sure you are as comfortable as possible. I will have a mass said for you so that God helps you to heal very quickly and that you can be back to being the Michael you love to be. It was great to hear Deborah's voice today on the phone. Hang in there my buddy, each day will get better. When you get to day 4 post op it will be clear sailing from there ok!!!! Keep your faith!! I am praying for you!!

Until me meet
Love you forever,
