It seems no mstter what I do I can't get a break .Ever since this started about a year and a half ago its been dissappoinyment after dissappointment .First the surgeon won't give me my hip replacement because my t-cells are under 400 , The count was 392 mind you and he would not help me , ok fine he has rules , I'll respect that , I change my diet and meds and contract a cellulitus like condition in my right leg where there is swelling redness , pain and skin tightness and my t-cells don't go up to boot !now not only my hip but my knee hurts too meanwhile my left leg is doing all the work of weight bearing so who knows what effect that is having .Then i think I found a surgeon who'll do the surgery but HIP insurance won't accept HIV+ clients .There are 3 managed care insurances a hiv+person can choose from in nyc and I don't know if this surgeon will accept any of them , with my luck I bet he won't .I'vr been using a walker for months now and no one wants to help me who's in a position too .Its so hard to stay positive when you keep being shot down .Its wearing me down .Thanks for listening anyone .

Dear Mike,

Good morning *warm huggs* I am sorry so many burdons are weighing you down. You have been through so much it seems that all of it is an impossible weight for any man to bear. Yet here you are. Standing tall and confronting enormous obsitcles. *hugg*  I am terribly sorry the insurance has unjustly denied you. It is a shame. For who can control what happenes to their bodies or what illness to face in life? It seems so preditory to me.  I am terribly sorry our friendship is long distance, especially now.... I have to get started on the last of my chores so I can get some jewlery made. But, I will be back later in the afternoon. Please, know you are in our hearts and prayers here.

*huggs*

Hello Mikel,

I don't believe I have taken the opportunity to respond too often because of my own recent struggles, but I find that venting here helps a great deal. None of us can provide more than a willing ear to listen and and understanding tone, but it helps me to know that people do understand and don't judge you by your pain or your issues.

I live in very small town, extremely rural USA and have difficulty seeing Dr's myself. I do not face the problems you do, so I can only express my greatest wish that you find a caring physician who understands what you face and is willing to help. My issues feel so small compared to others like you, but they are so big in my own life. It actually helps me to come here and "listen" to others for a while (instead of concentrating on my own issues like I do all the time at home).

Again, I wish you all the best and hope that you find some relief in this painful time.

I am sorry to hear about all the stress that you going through.  My half-brother and his partner are also HIV positive, so I am well aware of the difficulties you are having with the healthcare system.  I was a little confused when I read your posting.  The hip doctor that require a 400 T-cell count WAS covered by insurance and the other hip doctor who agreed to take you WAS NOT covered by insurance.  Do you have some type of HMO insurance where one is in the plan and the other is not?

Where do you go for your HIV treatment.  Is it possible that your HIV doctor could contact that first hip doctor and convince him that a 392 for you was a good number and he could perform the surgery.

Just wondering.

wink Mikel,
You are the most encouraging person I know. You have held me up when I thought I would fall and I want to do the same for you! We are now fb friends as well as HW friends. You are part of my family and I'm so glad we have you as a brother! Now, as far as these problems with surgery, you know as you have told me, things work out the way they should and you will wind up with the best surgeon for you! It will happen that way, I know it because a very wise man (you) told me so. I'm so glad you took your advise to me and reached out today. Sometimes every single day can be a struggle, this seems to be your tribulation day and though you may feel worn out, we are all here to hold your hand and lift you up.  Hang in there Brother!
I'm called Cat, but as there are few other Cat's on here, I put the number of cats I have and combined it to spell out Catz4

Cat my girl just great to hear from you as always yes i won't isolate I know what that can do and how painful that gets , reaching out is much better .Each response my great friends here have sent me makes me stonger .So I can not only do what I need to but feel good about it instead of feeling alone and having a pity-party .friendship is great medecine !

I am so sorry that you are going through all this insurance problems while you are trying to cope with your illnesses. I guess some of us (me) just take insurance for granted when ever we need medical care....we just make an appointment, hand them our insurance card , and see the doctor. You must be a very strong person emotionally to be able to handle all of this on top of your medical issues. I know that we do not know each other but I wish you all the best and hope that you can find insurance, and a surgeon. I know this my sound like a stupid question, but are you unable to find insurance because of your HIV? I don't understand anything about the T-cel count either......no need to explain, but I do hope that you are able to find what you need. I seem to have had quiet a few pity parties as well lately, it is reassuring to know that we are not alone when we do!!
Best of luck.

Mikel,

Sounds like you've just had a string of bad luck! But the cycle can't last forever. Hopefully things will start looking up soon! You certainly don't deserve this. Don't give up the fight!

hugs,
Skeye
