I have never had physical therapy for head pain before so this is a whole new animal to me. The majority of it is exercises for my arm due to a failed shoulder surgery which I am grateful for but what I am finding interesting (?) are the actual therapies which are suppose to help my head and wonder if anyone else is familiar with them. The first is a device that looks like a taser gun except it has just one prong at the end. The tech places it at 10 "trigger" points along my shoulder blades for a total of about 10 minutes. The next is this pad filled with red blinking leds' which she places under my head and is said to be a deep heating infra-red heat. I feel no heat, actually feel nothing, just lay there with this pad under my head for another 10 minutes. The final, I lay with my head on a pillow and the tech barely touches my skull. She says she is realigning the bones in my skull. Again this goes on for another 10 minutes. Then I am sent home to do exercises which help realign my right arm and shoulder. These exercise seem to cause the most strain on my head and this makes sense as I am using those muscles which pull all the way from back to shoulder through ear but the others with the lights and such...I just don't know.
Have any of you who have had back and spine injuries used any of these new techniques in your therapies?
I see this new pain doc next week to discuss how the 4 weeks of pt have progressed so I am trying my best to do all thats expected but frankly I am not seeing how they are working.
Can anyone offer any insight?

I have to admit that I have never heard of anything like this. I did use the TENS unit with PT for my back and I had one at home. They also used the heating pad several times, but no electrodes or anything like that.

Come to think of it, there was a machine in the treatment room that looked rather like an audio mixer for sound control. I wonder if it was used for something like what you are describing. You may want to try to look it up online.

Best to you!
