So the new PM Clinic I am going to will only refill prescriptions 72 clinic hours after calling in...

They are open Tues- Fri 9a-4p and closed 12-1 for lunch. (Thats 6 hours a day for 4 days a week)
So it will take 12 days to refill??????

Is this normal?? I didnt realize that those were the only hours I was supposed to be in pain...Sorry for being scartastic... I am just going thru BAD withdrawls.

Hey there,

Sorry to hear you are having troubles:(

Did you actually speak to one of the nurses or Dr.s that told you this? Or was it on their recording ...

My PM office has a 72 hr policy but it means they need a 3 day turnaround..

So if you call on Tues am...then your refill should be ready by Friday...

I get 30 day prescriptions so I know to always just set a reminder on my Palm phone to call them 3 days ahead...

For a first time prescription...most people need to see the actual Dr. first and lots of PM clinics won't even write something the first visit...so maybe that is why they are saying so long this time?

Hope you can get help soon..take care..

Here is where the problem lies.........

My 30 day supply was up last week.
I saw 1 dr for injections, but my apt with the dr that does medication refills isnt untill 4/29!!!

So I called my refering Dr and he said that he wont refill it & I have to go thru the PM dr.
I am in a catch 22. What do I do?????????
I have called and left them another message in hopes that they will call me back,...

That is a bind you are in...sorry:(

Not sure what you were prescribed before...but maybe you can ask them for a muscle relaxer like Robaxin, Skelaxin, or Flexeril...or even something like Tramadol which could at least hold you over until your appt. with the Dr. (maybe even your old Dr. would feel ok doing that if they won't so check with him as well)

This way they know that you are willing to accept any type of pain relief and not just asking for a narcotic since you don't have a long established relationship with them yet...

Just throwing some ideas out there...

Sending a big hug your way (( ))

So I did, & waiting on a call back.
Will let ya know what happens...

Ok.......I have come to a decision on my life.

I have called my primary care and asked to disregard my refill request.

I have called the PM dr and cancelled all future appointments.

I have decided that since I am already going thru the withdrawls from the Oxycontin, I will just let it happen.

I will not take anything else, I will live in the pain and learn to "deal".

I cant take the BS anymore from the Dr's and from my hubby thinking its not as bad as it is.

I am just done with it all.....
Sorry to be so negative, but its the truth.

Donna,
Sorry you're having to go through this. Snowbunny is right in that a 3 day turn around time is pretty standard for many medical offices because they're so overwhelmed with seeing the patients that are there they have to get to the phone calls whenever there's a break. And that usually means 3 business days, like Snowbunny said. I do the same thing about recording on my calendar in advance so I remember to make calls.

But I see that's not your total problem now. I hope your primary doc will understand and help you through until the end of April. The other thing to do is ask if the PM doc has a cancellation list, and ask to be put on it. But that could mean a last minute call if there's an unexpected opening.

Next time you do see your PM (the one who prescribes the meds) discuss this with him/her and ask how to manage it in the future. It's not ok for you to have to go without meds for long periods because you can't get in. Some places will let you come in and pick up a script every month, if they can only see you every 3 months. Unfortunately a lot of our controlled substances can't be refilled like many other meds.

Good luck!

   Dear Donna,

Good evening. I hope you had a moment or two to realx today. I am sorry about the wait you have to go through. Is there anyway they can just write 3 to 6 months worth of pain medicine? My doctors do and when ever it is time or nearly time to renew them the pharmacist takes care of faxing the requests so I don't have to deal with it. Perhaps you can set up a system like that with your pharmacist?

I remember a nurse had mentioned something along those lines a few years ago (48hr notice of some kind), but later that day when I brought it up to the doctor he said not to worry about. So, it might very well be standard procedure for approvals. I do worry thou, in your situation, you really need your meds and I wonder if there is anyway to get your appointment re set? I don't like the idea of you being in so much pain.. as long term pain has so many negative consequences to the body... Maybe, at the very least, stick with your PM until you can find a new one that you are comfortable with? I hope you can come to some sort of compramise with your doctors. You are in our hearts here.

*hugg*
