I spoke to het on the phone today, she was so thrilled to hear me and me likewise. She is coming to Montreal on Saturday so we might see each other.
I let her know about some treatment that might be an option for her.  I first got aquainted with it throught the news on NBC. It's about a 20 something year old girl who suffered from fibro and she went to Germany where The so-called treatment consisted in inducing the person in a deep coma with ketamine and get them back after 2 weeks and the girl was 80% free of pain. It's based on the "deprogramming and reprogramming" notion, like rebooting a PC if you will. Unfortunately, it doesn't work with everybody but they still have a 50% success rate which, when you are really desperate can be something.
Anybody knows if they have it in the U.S now and in what state it would be available if so?
Thanks in advance for nay feedback.

Frenchie -

Hi... I just wanted to welcome you here to the board. I've been off for a couple of weeks - dealing my own health stuff.... so I think you must have joined in while I was gone. It's nice to meet you...and I hope to get to know you more.

I'm glad you connected w/ Suzane! That's wonderful.... she's a sweetheart, isn't she? I'm sorry for all the two of you are going through... but I'm so happy you two connected.

Were you asking if the ketamine treatment are available here in the states? If so, I *believe* the answer is "yes"...though I don't know how wide-spread it is (I'm in California). I had heard about it through my own pain management group way back when.... But it wasn't until Suzane that I actually knew of someone doing the treatments.

The "reprogramming" thing makes sense to me, from a logical perspective. I'd still want to know all the risk factors and everything... but for someone in a desperate place... who's tried everything else - I get the reasons behind it. I'd probably try everything at that point to.

I'm rambling now... :) (I'm good at that!)... but just wanted to say "hey" and wish you all the best.. and I'll be talking w/ you soon.
Take care, Tina

Hi Frenchie,

Yes, they do ketamine infusions in the US, although I have never heard of them inducing a coma with ketamine, only inpatient infusions, like the ones Suzane is getting. Like Tina, I'm not sure how widespread they are though. I know that no one in my area (and las far as I know, my entire state -- albeit a small state) does ketamine infusions. My doctor did send me over to a teaching hospital in Boston this past summer for a consultation with a PM that he heard lecture about ketamine infusions with the hope that she might have some suggestions for me, but it turns out that that hospital no longer does ketamine infusions. If I remember correctly they stopped because they were having a hard time getting insurance companies to pay for the treatments & they weren't having enough success with the procedure.
