My doctor wants to give me a nerve block to help with migraines I've been getting. He wants to block a nerve on the left side of my face near my nose. There's a possibility that scar tissue from a couple previous septoplasys might be aggravating a nerve there

I'm kind of hesitant about this. Is there any complications with this procedure? Are there any long term health effects I should be worried about? Would you undertake this procedure?

I've not had nerve blocks for migraine pain, but have had them done for back, neck and thoracic spine pain,
and there have been a lot of old posts about injections, so I would suggest you wait for someone to come along,
that's had them for migraines and then maybe go back and read up on the older posts here....
Also, try to google them for further information...
For my lower back the injections seemed to have helped, but I will not have them done again for my cervical Neck..
Is your pain management doctor doing these or your neurologists? some doctors are more specialized on these than others..
ask the doctor that brought this up if he/she has done many of these you do want an experienced doctor.
Hope this info helps...
Good luck to you and try going back thru the older posts here...
Just wondering but have you tried migraine meds? and the migraine headache forum here is good too...
please if you can some more info about you would be nice...

i had a series of them in my low back and they did absolutely nothing for me except cause severe swelling... but i may have been allergic to something in the shot... i'd be scared to get them any higher than my back... I've used a STIM machine in that area for neck and TMJ pain/headaches, so maybe you're doc would let you try that first?? It helps a lot and is non-invasive... I'm all for non-invasive...

i've had nerve blocks several times right side of my face, just above the right eye next to my nose below the eye brow, called the supra troclea( i know i have that spelling wrong, sorry) they never seemed to work because the doc never injected on the exact spot that hurt as opposed to the "recommended " spot. Have also had many injection in the supr orbital nerve which is just above the eyebrow. Both block completely numbed my forehead for about 2 days or so ( just never the spot that hurt in the eye socket) never had any serious side effects. They hurt, as does any needle getting jammed in ones face but its worth a shot if your doc thinks it may help. If reALLY UP TO YOU AND YOUR FEELINGS TOWARDS NERVE BLOCKS. i WAS HAVING THEM QUITE OFTEN FOR A FEW YEARS AND THEN SAID no FOR A FEW YEARS AFTER (OOPS, SORRY FOR THE CAPS) having no relief. I just starting having some again with a new pain doc. Not that I'm sold on the injections but rather because I like the new doc so I'm trying to give her a chance.
hope this helped a bit
sick and tired of being sick and tired
