[/code]I went to see my Pain Doc last Thursday for my monthy refill, and I asked him if he can Please do something about my upper neck pain and the pain in the back of my head! I had an MRI done on my cervical spine earlier this year, and I had been receiving Epidurals, I have some bad nerve root impingement on the right side at C3 anyway the last Epidural he threaded the cath up to that area and injected the steroid and I got 10 days to 2 weeks out of it. To give me some relief he is going to do an Occipital Nerve Block the 24th of this month. He wants me to go see the surgeon, since I had such good results with the ACDF at C-5/6 last September, he thinks that surgery might be the answer for this too! So I am scheduled to see the surgeon the 9th of June! I am just about to the point I will try anything! It feels like some body is beating me on the lower back of my head, and upper neck, and when I turn my head just so, I get a searing hot stabbing pain shooting from the upper middle of my spine up through to the back top of my head, and down to my adams apple. It is a frightening when it happens the pain is so intense and it takes time to go away, and then I have a major stiff neck for days afterwards! , This has been happening way to often, and this is on top of the head and neck pain that is aways there!!

Anyway if it isn't one thing it is another! I know this has been a problem for a long time, and it just keeps getting worse!

I am thinking I have had this Occipital Nerve Block before, maybe a year or two ago, but I have had so much stuff done lately I just can not remember. Isn't this Nerve Block when they give the injections across the back base of the skull? or am I thinking of something else? Has any body had this type of Nerve Block?

Thanks for Listening

Hi Whitebeard:

I have been wondering how you were doing. I am sorry that you are possibly facing surgery again, but if it must be, I pray that it will get rid of or at least greatly reduce the pain you are suffering with.

I have only had steroid injections in my back, never in my neck, so I'm sorry I can't help you with information on those. I would be very interested on how they work for you as I may be facing them in the near future though.

Please keep us updated on how you are doing, you have always been so wonderfully supportive of me and everyone here at HW. I hope that I can do the same for you as you face these difficult circumstances and decisions.

Hang in there!

Hi White Beard,

I haven't had any of the issues or treatments you've experienced, but I wanted to send good thoughts your way. I hope that whatever is going to happen will happen quickly for you, so you get back on the healing track sooner, rather than later. You're a huge part of this community and we're all rooting you on.

hugs,
Pam

Hi WB!

Gosh, I'm so sorry you're in such pain. And no,it isn't fair but unfortunately it's still there. I've had steroid injections in my lower back but not in the neck. I've got arthritis in my spine from my shoulders up. It's getting worse over time. Hope I don't have to go through what you are. Sure doesn't sound like any fun...but what choices do you have?

Remember that we're right here to hold you up no matter what happens. Hang on to your 'family' when the going gets tough and I think that's now. Here, take my hand (extending hand) and I'll help you however I can! You've sure helped me through some rough times whether you know t or not. But we'll make it my friend!

Hugs~

Thanks Chutzie, and all the rest of my family for the support and encouragement. It really does get old quickly, you think you have one problem fixed, and then another one pops up!

WB,

I'm sorry for all you are dealing with! I've had occipital nerve blocks twice... I'm hazy on the details because it's been awhile... but I remember it was w/ IV sedation (combo of versed/fentanyl)... I remember this because the versed wouldn't work, although they were giving me tons.... and, yes, it's just injections in the back of the head... they did help for a bit for me... but the effects did wear off quickly.

I really hope you feel better... and get some much need pain relief :)

White Beard,
I'm so sorry that yet another issue has popped up for your to deal with. I haven't had any epidurals or injections in my cervical spine, although I probably could use some. Just in my lower back. So like the others who haven't had this procedure, all I can do is offer support, but I sure do understand the feeling of it being a never-ending pile of health problems that many of us have to face. And the pile keeps growing.

I wish I could offer more but others are right that you are a huge support for this forum and I hope you will get back all you give others and then some!

   Dear White Beard,

I am sorry your neck is giving you so many problems. I know you have mentioned it alot over the last wnter/fall 09 season. So, needless to say I am glad you going to be getting some releif soon, even if it is short lived! I hope your visit with the surgeon goes well too. You will have to be sure to let us know how the block goes! You are in our prayers here for releif and a great visit to the surgeon!

Chart, PALady, and all of you that have posted on this thread..
No my house hasn't sold yet, I am still hoping that some one will buy it soon! I have had so many medical problems it seems, I got an infection in my tooth that I need a root canal and crown, I was hurting so bad I finally went to an oral surgeon and he did not want to pull it, but he did give me antibiotics to buy me some time to think about what I want to do with it, and he sent me back to the dentist who does the root canals for another evaluation. Nothing has changed it still needs a root canal done on it, oh I was wrong one thing has changed, the price went up from 800 dollars to 960 dollars for the root canal. So that dentist has helped me allot on making up my mind. The tooth is going to come Out! But not quite yet!
If that isn't enough, all my doctors have been telling me I need to be under the care of a neurologist, I haven't had one since I fired the one I had that I told him he was blowing me off, and that was back before I had my disk fusion! Anyway all my doctors want me under the care of a neurologist bedause I have all these other neurological problems that come and go and come back. swallowing difficulities, balance problems, abnormal weakness in all my limbs, and of course the musle spasms all over! The neurologist say it is the disk in my back, and the back surgeons and all the other Doctors say it is not my back but something else going on! I hate neurologist and I have never seen one that I liked or trusted. But a month or so ago I finally broke down and got a new neurologist, the first appointment, he said he read over everything and said everything was caused by the disk in my back! And there was no need for any further test! His analogy was if you get hit in the head one day and you have a head ache the next day, why should you check for a brain tumor! ( he must like that saying because he kept repeating over and over! He said all my symptoms could be explained by all the bad disk in my back! Or at least most of them. I told him then he needed to convince all the other Doctors of that! Anyway I argued with him to do a MRI of my brain, he finally agreed, and I had it done, and it was abnormal, he said there were two spots, indicating one about the size of a quarter and the other a dime or penny in size. But they were not recent,??? and he doubted that they were caused by MS, but wasn't sure what they were caused by, but they could of even been caused by trauma, or some head injury??? Which I have not had, and that was that!!, No more test, and no more explantion of what the spots were or if they were causing any problems, in short no more nothing! To him everything is all caused by the disk in my back!! My Pain Doc is going to send me to some body else! But all this stuff has been going on at the same time. That is one of the reasons, I have not been posting quite as much, There are a few other medical things going on to, that I haven't mentioned. ( shortness of breath and swelling in my legs, and some of my sleep apnea symptoms coming back! I had another sleep study and echocardiogram, and I am scheduled for a few more test yet.

Now I have spilled all the beans, I have had allot of appointments, the last few week! You know some days I just feel so OLD! That is the only word I can think of that really describes how I have been feeling. so very Old and tired, just worn out! I think we all get that way sometimes or at least I hope I am not alone saying that!! Anyway "now you know the rest of the story!" I can't begin to tell you all, how much all your support and caring and compassion, mean to me!
You truely are my Family!

   Dear White Beard,

Good morning! I am so glad to hear from you. I was reading up on last weeks old posts that I missed and I wanted to tell you that the pictures sure did warm my heart. My Bumblebees were in awe and wanted to know if you had named them and if you give them birdy baths. They decided you must have fairies help you give them birdy baths! hehe

I am sorry that you do not have any leads on selling your home. That has got to be frustraiting to no end. You went through so much to get everything spotless, in order and ready for prospective buyers. It was alot of work that took a very long time to get done. shakehead   I hope the warm weather and summer season bring buyers out. It would be fantastic if it could sell before winter!

The tooth has to be awfull to deal with. I hear often now.. folks say all the time "I try not to complain about teeth, I just think of what you went through".. always something to that effect. I always say "I didnt feel a thing!" And its true. I was put under for the surgery and when I woke I was put on heavy meds for the next 2 weeks. I didnt feel a thing. I simply cannot imagine how much your tooth must hurt, and infection in your mouth has to be hard!!! I did want to mention something thou. When I was initally assesed by the surgeon, dentist etc (after the endocrinologist found out what the problems was) and everything was ready to go, I was given an "estimate", you know like you do on car work or carpentry work. In writing. The estimate was good for 8 months. Just like at a mechanics or home repairmen. Can you do something like that with your dentist? "lock in" the costs, so to speak, so you don't have top pay higher amounts? ..Just a random thought. None the less I sure hope the infection in your jaw eases up, it must hurt awfully bad and add in all the other stressors in your life... Gosh it must be awfully hard on you.

...Your are brave man. I am supposed to see a neurologist now that everything else is done (all of the doctor stuff is COMPLETLY done. All left is neurologist and genetic testing) but I am scared to death. Frightened to my very core!

..And here you are, with so MUCH, on your plate and you see a neurologist that takes the scans and tell you "There are abnormalities, I don't know why. Tuffin up and don't worry about". Atleast that is what I feel this neurologist is telling you... He literally left you with no choice than to seek out an entirely new neurologist. If you run into him again be sure to thank him for wasting your time, and using up valuable resources. What a mess.

Did you make an appointment with the new neurologist? Or are you going to wait for things to settle down a bit before you travel down that road? If you wait a bit I don't think anyone could blame you. But, from the sound of your brain scann, you will need someone to investigate it more closley. Will pray that the new Neurologist is able to pin point and fully assess the abnormalities.

I hope this week is a little more quiet for you. You ve had alot on your plate every single week, for a long time now. It would be nice if you were able to enjoy the warming weather (without horrible mouth pain) and get a few moments to yourself. Stay strong! You are in our hearts and ALWAYS in our prayers!

White Beard,
I'm glad you shared everything with the group about what you're struggling with. So much on your plate! I don't know about neurologists....years ago I had one I like, but I've had several over the years and he was the only one and he retired. Now I've got his partner and he's nice enough, but what I would call lazy. Doesn't want to put any work into thinking, or extra paperwork, or anything. Heaven forbid! Sounds like you've had the same kind of luck with neurologists. I wonder if it would be worth a trip to a teaching hospital - at least maybe (maybe?) a neurologist there might at least like to THINK about what your MRI shows.

Does your dentist have any payment plans? A lot of mine did, but they were through a separate credit card company and my credit is now so bad that I didn't qualify (breaks my heart as I always had great credit until all this stuff hit and I got laid off). But you may qualify and then you could at least pay on a monthly basis.

And I, too, hope your home sells - and soon! It looks like a beautiful place in the pictures. Someone has to come along and fall in love with it now that winter is over!

oh White Beard.  You've got so much on your plate.  Bless your heart.  I wish you good luck with the procedure.  I've never had any kind of injections except an epidural when I lost our baby and they had to take the placenta out.  I know it hurt like mad.  I sure hope it gives you relief.

It's a shame that you worked so hard on your house and haven't sold it yet.  I wish you good luck with selling it too.  That must be very aggravating.

I hope the new neurologist will be better than the last.  ((((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))))
