Yesterday around 3 pm, I started shivering and asked my husband for two blankets and to turn the a/c down.  I even went outside and sat in the hot car for a while to get warm.  Well, I came inside and fell asleep for a while and when I woke up I had 103 fever.  So, being the nurse I am, I had decided that I had a urinary tract infection and got a course of antibiotics to take.   Well my fever was not going down and I am not even two weeks post up from a hysterectomy, so I asked my hubby to take me to the ER,

I was poked and prodded and stuck and had blood drawn and blood cultures and urine cultures and had a CT scan with contrast and low and behold, I was pronouced with a UTI and was given IV antibiotics and fluids.   I spent the night in the hospital ER and was discharged after 7 am.

I spent the day sleeping and in between drinking water.

Meanwhile, I called my surgeon in Tampa, just to let him know what had come to pass and discovered in talking to him, that the washingings of my peritoneum from the surgery were positive for cancer as well as the cervix.  Let me just say , Oh Crap.  Well, he says the chemo and radiation won't be too bad.  We will see.  He is a good surgeon and has a calm demeanor so he inspires confidence in me.  At least there is that.

I missed my granddaughter's kindergarden graduation mass today.  That bumms me out too.

OK I will keep you all posted.

Lindaloo,
I'm so sorry to hear the news, but I am glad you have such a great doc to lean on and trust. I'm glad you trusted your nurse's knowledge and went to the ER when you really needed it. I hope at least the infection starts clearing up.

Many hugs and healing thoughts coming your way,

PaLady

Those UTI's can really make you feel like crap but one good thing is the antibiotics normally kick in fairly fast. Keep drinking clear fluids and get plenty of rest. A fever that high can really take a toll of the body.

Sounds like you have found a doctor that you feel comfortable with and that in itself is a blessing. Good Luck and keep us posted as your treatments progress. From what I've read the cancer treatments have come along way and are easier on the body. I'm sorry you have to go through this, it's got to be very frightening.

   Dear Linda,

I am so sorry that you missed your little munchkins graduation party. That had to feel just awfull. A friend of mine ended up with cervical cancer which had spread to her perinedum and other areas aswell. She was very tired for the first 6 months of treatment (even though she did her very best, even keeping her PH levels balanced) and hated that she had to miss so many important milestones with her daughters and son. I hope though, that with chemo treatment and other therapies that your biopsies show that you can & will win this fight. My friend lost alot during her year long fight, including her marriage (he had a hand in the reason why she contracted the type of cancer she had). The one thing I regret the most is that I didnt have a video camera to show her all the things she missed due to illness / side effects. I had to teach her 2 oldest daughter to drive, get them ready and enrolled in college. Her youngest how to read..... So, what I am trying to say I guess, is that perhaps you could borrow or get a video camera so you can atleast be a part of all the important things while you are battling the cancer. I remember trying so hard to relay to her all the things that had happened during those important times while cleaning her home, organizing her appointments..... knowing from the look on her face that she wanted so much to be there.  shakehead   The constant battle wore her soul out to no end. She did win the fight, even re married to a wonderful man.... But when she tries to talk about the major events in her daughters lives that she missed, she still cries to this day. And really, who could blame her?

Sorry, I didnt mean to chat away. I just ment to suggest you find someone who would be willing to go capture those moments for you on video, so you can be there too. Stay strong. And know you are in our hearts and prayers.

*hugg*

Linda -

Ahhh, you've been through so much, and are going through so much - you don't need a darn UTI on top of everything else! I'm glad you went in, though... and I hope the UTI quickly goes away.

I just want you to know that I very much believe in the power of prayer - and I have you included in my daily prayers. I know many of us here do, too. :) Please keep us updated on everything - but know that we are all pulling for you, Linda :)

Take care of yourself... --Tina

Several of you have asked when the treatments are to begin. The answer is, sometime after 6 weeks after my surgery. I am 2 weeks post op now. I go to the oncologist next Tuesday to develop a plan of care, so I should know more then.

As soon as I know I will let you all know. As for my UTI, I am still having symptoms and it is uncomfortable, but I have no more fever, so I guess I am getting better. If I still feel badly tomorrow, I will call my doctor and maybe go in to see him, the primary care doctor, that is.

Thank you all for your concern, prayers and well wishes. I so appreciate all of them more than you all know. I will keep you all advised of how I am doing.
