Hello CP members. I just wanted to pass along the latest on Privey. Her husband called me today and said that she has broken her hip,
and has been hospitalized.

It seems that the Dr thinks that somehow the Hickman Catheter was a source of infection that may have weakened her hip bone.
The catheter was implanted several weeks ago to allow nutrition to be fed to her, as she was struggling with her severe weight loss.

Surgery was planned for this last Monday, but the infection was not under control yet, so they put it off until this next Monday.

I have not talked to her yet, and may go visit her this weekend if we possibly can.
She has been in quite a bit of pain, but her husband said that it seems to be under control now.
Her family is pretty worried about this new unexpected problem, and understandably so, as she will need every bit of the strength,
and body mass she has gained in the last few weeks.

We just had dinner with them a couple of weeks ago, and I must say that she looked the best I have ever seen her.
Quite chipper and a go getter!

Lets please keep her and her family in our prayers and thoughts, as she works her way through this.

I will update you all, when I receive more news from her family.

Until then, I hope you all find some healing,

SE

Oh God no, not my Cathy! Prayers are going out to her family. Please heal my dear Cathy, we need you. You didn't need this girl, you were just starting to feel better. I guess that was why there was no answer the other day. I love you and keep you close in my heart.

Love you

I will do Skeye, and I also wanted to add that they will be putting in a temporary hip replacement, made from some sort of plastic instead of a metal one.
Their fear is that, since she had infection problems with a metal plate on her original back surgery, they do not want to take a chance of having the same problem, occurring again.
I really don't know much other than that, and know nothing about hip replacements. I'm sure some of the other members here can shed more light on hip surgery's.

9yrs, I don't think she fell, but about a weeks ago she had called me and said that her hip was sore, and was not sure why. We both talked about for a while and then brushed it off.
Mr. Privey told me that she just could not get out of bed anymore, so they loaded her up in an Ambulance and took her to the ER, which is only about two blocks away.

I do remember her falling a couple of months ago, and now wonder if that may have been the start of it.

She did look very good though a couple of weeks ago, and did not complain of her hip at that time.

I always look close after her when she comes to visit us, and always help her into the truck when they leave.
We have a wonderful time of it, and her husband is a swell gentleman as well. He knows Privey is one of my five fingered friends,
so he keeps me informed on her.
Privey and I have grown close, and we read each other so well, you would think we are biological twins. Our wonderful spouses understand the bond that we have.
My wife has said many times that she is an inspiration to her, as she is like the Energizer Bunny.
Her body is broken, but she keeps putting one foot in front of the other. She is a Wonderful woman! Simply Wonderful!

Thank you Michael for taking our wishes and prayers to her. I know that you are struggling as well with your own issues, but I know too you are the kind of guy that would do just these things for a friend. I am proud and honoured to call you my close friend. Cathy has been there for me several times thru my darkest days and listened to me and now it is time to pray hard for our dear Cathy. You are always in my heart Cathy and may God take good care of you and keep you comfortable and safe thru these trying days.

Lots of love

I noticed in my earlier post that my time line is off a bit, however Im still on pain meds and it is a struggle for me to keep up with events and the time they are happining. I'm guessing you can read between my mistakes. We have been swamped with problems and it is tough to keep up with all that we wish to. My aplogy to you all for any errors here.

Priveys condition is a very serious one, and there is a concern for her survival through this.

    Thanks!

Sorry also to hear you have been having problems also my friend. Is your back still giving you problems or your neck or both? Is the work making things worse?
Please if you think of it to tell Privey, that her buddy> the silly one, has been asking about her and is praying for her speedy recovery!!!!!!!
Thanks Old Friend!

Hello Pete! I will make sure all notes of prayers and thoughts get to her. I will print out a copy of it and read it to her when I go to see her this weekend.
I may try to go up Sat evening and stay the night with her husband and then visit Sunday morning. This is the plan anyways.

She will appreciate all!

I hope you are doing well Pete, and we do enjoy the videos, so keep them coming. You are going to have to show me how to post them,
as I think they are a very personable way to share your life. Maybe we can invest in one of those contraptions you call a video recorder, and share back to you as well.
I will put it on the Christmas list this year.

My Dearest Cathy,
Jusst know that I love you and have always felt that special connection with you from the very beginning. From our very first phone call. We are kindred spirits as I had told Michael. I continue to pray hard for you and that you begin to heal soon. You are important to me in my life, I look at your picture every day since you sent it to me. You have always been an inspiration to me, you have guided me and you have given me strength to continue. Now i want to help you. You know that if I lived nearby I would be there to hold your hand. You are close to my heart and i know we will meet. Focus on some happy thoughts my friend, picture yourself with Michael and I laughing it up. Our day will come!!

Love you tons

I spoke with Prive's husband last night, and they moved her to another Hospital were they have better ways to find out where the infection is coming from. They cannot do the Hip Replacement Surgery until they get it under control. I believe they will do the surgery there, if and when they get things to settle down.

I will update as I learn more.

Privey has been moved back to her home town Hospital, and the infection is under control now. They have reinserted the Hickman Catheter, and are now feeding her nutrition again through it.

Her surgery for a hip replacement will be this next Wednesday.

My wife also lost her father late Friday evening, so we are dealing with that at the moment. Life has been a challenge to say the least these days.
He had cancer, and it had spread every where. It even got into his spine, and he broke his back twice this last month as a result of it.
It was a blessing that he went quick, as he was suffering something terrible from it.

He was a unique man, and will be missed.

I will update more on Privey as soon as I know more about her surgery results. I have not had a chance to see her yet but hope to soon.
A trip of any kind will be hard on me at the moment, as I still suffer complications from my own recovery.

Oh thank you Michael. You know I have been some worried about her and have no number to contact her to get info. Sounds like things are under control now so that is a huge blessing.
Take care of yourself Michaeal. And my sympathies for you and Deborah and the family.
My prayers continue for both you and cathy.

Love you both

Michael,
My sympathies to you and your wife on your loss. In my mother's last couple of months her cancer also spread to her bones, so I understand what you're saying about him not lingering in pain.

I hope privey continues to improve, and that her surgery goes well.

Thank you PaLady. It is not an easy thing for loved ones to go through. I can't stand to see anyone in pain, and it bothers me terribly.
He is at peace now, and his family is at ease as well.

OK, got another call from Privey's husband about an hour ago, and he said they surgery has been scheduled for tomorrow, instead of Wednesday.

They have decided not to replace the hip at this time, but will put in a spacer instead. The spacer will have an antibiotic embedded in it,
to help fight off any infection problems. I have not heard of this type of material, but I'm sure some of you may know what I'm talking about.

It will be made of some sort of plastic material, as they want to avoid the metals for fear of infection problems, caused in earlier surgery's with her.

I will update as I learn more.

SE, I am sorry to hear of the loss of your wife's dad and know its been really a tough time for the family. I lost my mom to lung cancer and understand all so well. I lost both of my parents within 18 months of each other and that was almost too much for me to deal with. But know he is out of pain and in a much better place.

Yes, I do understand what they are saying about using plastic versus metal with Privey. That is a big concern with my PCP and PM dr every time the cellulitis rears its ugly head, because the pump is metal, plus I have a Port A Cath implanted in my chest.

Thanks for keeping everyone updated.
