I have a list of medical problems that include RA, Fibro, RLS, Pernicious Anemia, Scurvy, Facet Joint Syndrome.... But I recently have injured my back and it's KILLING ME! Here's the story - My 18 mo. old daughter came up behind me while I was bending down and hit me in the back (towards my left side.) I swear, it feels like I have a broken rib! There is no bruising. And my doctor truely thinks I am nuts! I went to see him 4 days ago, which was 2 days after the injury. I was in EXTREME pain (I take 40mg of Percocet & Duragesic patch75 a day-Not touching it.) It still hurts just as bad today. Hurts when I cough, sneeze, laugh, breathe, etc. I am having trouble sleeping because it hurts so bad. And due to my Facet Joint Syndrome, I can't lay on my stomach. I tell ya, I'm a medical mess.
- My doctor looked at the area and pushed around it (OUCH!) And he just said that it was my muscles from the Fibro and that my daughter couldn't possibly damage my ribs. (I had to take her to the doc with me when her grandma canceled at the last minute. And he's looking at this sweet little toddler and thinking this woman is crazy!) But toward the end of our visit she was getting restless and ready to open every drawer and she even tried to untie his shoes. Putting a baby in an 8X8 room with lots of shiny new things everywhere with a mom that can't bend or get out of the chair very quick to stop her is a very bad idea! I think he began to get aggravated with her and was ready to get us outta there!! LOL.

Shann75, first thing is calm down, that can be hard when your hurting...earlier this year I had a couple of cracked ribs when I had
pneumonia, so yeah they hurt like holy heck...I found that wearing a rib belt for a few minutes to a couple of hours each day helped
they can't tape them up anymore as you could get pneumonia...a rib belt can be found at a compounding pharmacy and don't wear
it too tight and y'all just have to give them time to heal, that's the hardest part...Also, do not pick up you young one with cracked ribs
and don't get the injections for them as those made me hurt more..plainly they just take time to heal and they hurt a lot...
sorry....sure wish I could take your pain away...but the rib belt might help...
I cracked mine in January and they still hurt some,...but they are better....try sleeping in a recliner for a sew days...I did.
((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((Shann))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
hope your feeling better soon....

I do sound panic stricken, huh!? LOL. The doc said there is "no way" it is a cracked rib!! He said that my fibro is making the injury hurt worse because it is in the muscle.....not my ribs. There is absolutely no visible bruising - And I read online that it could be a Contusion, damaging muscle fibers and connective tissue (A direct blow from a blunt object can cause a contusion.)

She caught me off guard, as she came from behind and "nailed" me in the back/side rib area. I screamed like I had been shot!! It hurt so bad immediately! And I tensed up right away. (It hurts when someone hugs me, pats my back, or even brushes against me most days from the FMS.) It wasn't until later that night that the pain got worse. It happened in the morning and I continued to pick up the house and carry out normal activities that day. It will be a week ago tomorrow. I can't believe how badly it hurts with the amount of pain medication that I am on. Should I go the hospital?????

The Hospital would do chest x-rays, maybe an ekg to make sure your not having a heart attack...if it feels like a heart attack
then I would say go to the ER as soon as possible! but for broken ribs nothing can be done...
Others will be by with better advise...
If you think it's broken ribs then like I said they'd just send you home..
Try using an soft light weight ice pack on the area, might help...try getting a "rib belt"
cracked ribs just really really hurt, sorry...
do a google search on cracked ribs...
(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((Shann))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
I did not have any discoloration, but my doctors could feel them and tell they were broken, I had 2 cracked...but I was swollen
more on the side that had the cracked ribs, take it easy definitely no bending....a rib belt might also help if it's a contusion...
