I didn't know where else to put this. I've been having a burning pain on my right side of my groin. Feels like a hot poker sticking into me. What could this be?

Possibly a pinched nerve, possibly an infection of some kind...but if it's hurting that much, a trip to the doctor for a diagnosis is your best bet..

Good luck!

It's between my navel and the joint where the leg is attached. Actually, at an angle. They feel like period cramps. But it burns.

Thanks guys. I haven't done anything that would cause an hernia. My husband thinks it might be my appendix.

Well, I''m a firm believer in seeking medical attention for any pain that is unusual and that lasts longer than an hour. Go to ER and get it checked if it's still bothering you. If it is your appendix, you do NOT want it to rupture - you're setting yourself up for a whole lot of nastiness if that happens.

Good luck!

Well, I have to agree with everyone else - see your doc if it continues. Even tho the pain seems to be a bit low for your appendix, that doesn't mean it isn't. Other signs to watch out for are a fever (even a low-grade one), nausea, vomiting, the area being sensitive to touch, and increased/radiating pain. I hope you feel better soon, but please don't wait too long to see your doctor.

Thanks. Would a hernia feel like a hot poker sticking?

I know that a hernia can be painful. My oldest son had a double inguinal (sp?) hernia, but he was just a baby. He didn't seem to be in pain tho. I do know that when a hernia strangulates, it is quite painful. This is when a portion of the intestine is cut off by the hernia. I would think that could cause a 'hot poker' sensation. I myself have burning pains in my abdomen from adhesions. Is there any chance you have adhesions? Have you had abdominal surgery? I would really have a doc check you out and the sooner the better! Please take care.

Nope. I haven't had any surgery. Believe me, if it gets any worse, I'll be going to ER or the doctor.

I guess I need to explain why I don't go to the doctor. My husband has been having a lot of heart problems, and is having tests done to see what the doctors can do for him. He's got blocked arteries in his heart, his groin, his left arm, and the arteries in his neck. He also has an aneurysm in his abdomen. He's not supposed to drive, so I have to do all the driving. I'm also taking care of my son who has Crohns disease. He needs me to drive him to all his appointments. I'm scared about this pain I'm having. I just know that they'll put me into the hospital, and I can't do that while I'm taking care of my guys.

I understand your concerns about going to the doctor/hospital - really I do. I am averse to hospitals for several reasons. Heck, I don't like having to go to the doctor on a regular basis. I am alot like my father was. Many years ago, he had excruciating headaches, lightheadedness, etc. He was stubborn and refused to get checked out (didn't like dr's, couldn't miss work, etc.). Well, he finally did go to the hospital - by ambulance. He suffered a brain stem stroke. Miraculously, he survived and lived for another 20+ years - but he ALWAYS regretted his stubborness because the effects of that stroke cause him agony until the day that he died. Potsie, what IF there is something serious going on? IF it is a hernia, they CAN herniate (I believe that is what they call it) and whatever it is that has worked its way through the opening can strangle, which in turn kills whatever tissue that is. You will then end up in the hospital anyway, in a much more serious condition, and for a much longer time than if you had gone in sooner. I don't mean to be all dramatic and 'doom and gloomish'! This may be something very minor. But whatever it is, it can be treated BEFORE it gets to the point of possibly needing to be hospitalized. I sure hope that I've made sense - I couldn't sleep last night and just woke up about 1/2 hour ago, so I'm still a little fuzzy. I wrote because I care. Have a peaceful day. :-)

I'm back from the doctor. He really didn't have an answer for that pain I'm having. He pushed the area and it didn't really hurt. He thinks it might be a nerve pain since it sends pain shooting down the front of my thigh. So, he put me on more pain pills and to let him know if they help. He also did a urine test and it was fine.

An ultrasound would be indicated to check for hernias.

Sounds like it could be a form of chronic pelvic pain syndrome/chronic pelvic inflammatory syndrome. If he hasn't already, testing for infections (mainly white blood cell count) would be wise.
Conditions: Reactive Arthritis (AKA Reiter Syndrome), Crohn's Disease, Chronic Pelvic Inflammatory Syndrome, Sacroiliitis, Costochondritis, As Yet Unknown MS-Like Relapsing/Remitting Neuropathy, and a partridge in a pear tree.

Medications: Currently not that many are taken daily, but there are many at my disposal for part-time use. Low dose pain medication, after years at high doses. Working on innovative ways of taking lesser-known pharmaceuticals and non-prescription supplements to maximum benefit.
