Well Friends & Fams,
I wrote yesterday how I just might loose it today when seeing my doc and I came very close! Instead of getting really mad, I just sat there and started crying while being totally overwelmed by her. I asked about having so much more pain after her cutting my meds and she replied that right now my body is Hypersensitive to pain causing my regular pain to be much worse. It's a common problem when cutting (what she said) high doeses of narcotics down to reasonable levels! OK, I'm 57 y/o and weigh 270lbs and I know lots of y'all here take a whole lot more pain meds than I ever did and I'm guessing that not many of you weight as much as I do??
When I lost it> started tearing like a spoiled child, she said to me> I think you have bigger problems than just youir pain! Hmmm> Think so do ya doc?? Before going any farther, let me tell you what she said to me to make me loose it> She said she thought I should get a job and forget about disability!! OK, now I've been seeing this young lady doc for a couple months now so I asked her if she had read the copy of the 20+ pages I wrote about myself for SSD about my health problems yet? She looked at me sitting there sobbing and I thought for a second she was going to lie and say yes because she hessitated but answered no. I thought about yelling for a split second but bit my tong and told her that maybe she should read it before making a suggestion like me getting a job here where the unemployement rate is over 20% and I'm sure in construction, what I did is much higher, that is if I could work!!!!!
She then said to me that she didn't want to offend me but she really thinks I should see a shrink really soon! I then told her that it was a shrink (marrage councellor) who w/ my wife were the ones who talked me into leaving my job and trying for disability in the first place!! Then told her I'd gladly go see one. She said she would give me a referal.
When the dust settled a little we went back to my physical health problems. She had her girl make an apt. w/ the foot and anckle specialist for my torn achilese temdon next Monday and said that I need to get an EKG because I take methadone and it can negatively affect my heart> a new one on me! My last doc never said anything about an EKG! Then we agreed that I will get X-rays on my hip & knee and MRI's on my neck & back. Something that we had agreed on last time but she messed up and had the paperwork backwards when the it came to me in the mail. She had it for xrays on my back & neck and MRI's on my hip & knee! So she went off after spending a whole 1/2 hr w/ me and left me in the examination room till the front desk girl came and got me. It was another 1/2hr before the paperwork came out to her at the front desk from the doc. When I looked at it, she had it marked MRI> cervical & lumbar but forgot about the x-rays for knee & hip! The girl went back and came back 10 minutes later and said> she fixed it. Then I asked if she had said anything about a shrink? Nope, didn't mention it! So I paid my copay and left! Why do I feel like banging my head against the wall when I leave dr's offices??? This young girl (doc) hasn't a clue who I am or what it's like to be me and how badly I feel all the time! Welcome to Pete's World, we're having a wonderful time in here today!!!!
OK, I'm done w/ the whine> why did I quit drinking anyway??? I think I'll go out in the 752 degree heat and play in my garden for a while, hose down the plants & myself after a smoke and a gatoraid! It might help a little> Come on Rose (my doggie)> Lets go!!!
Love All Y'all!
Pristiq Pete!

Just makes ya wanna pop her little head right off her neck, doesn't it! smhair   Oh, j/k - I think it's illegal to remove a physician's head (at least not w/o a referral!). I'm so sorry that she said what she did - how freaking insensitive - and just plain STUPID! Well, I wanted to say a few more things but I gotta run to the store. Have fun in your garden! Just pretend that the weeds you're plucking out of the ground are really hairs that you're yanking out of her head! shocked   Hang in there and have a peaceful day.

   Dear Pete,
I am so glad to hear from you. I really really appreciate your keep us updated. Our family thinks about you often and we all want to know how you are doing.
...now that being said so called doctor needs a swift ......  WHAT is she thinking! The hypersensativity argument would have some basis...except that you havnt been on ANY medication for OVER 6 MONTHS. And even when you were on medication it was least possible amount so you could function and still work!
~~> levels! OK, I'm 57 y/o and weigh 270lbs and I know lots of y'all here take a whole lot more pain meds than I ever did and I'm guessing that not many of you weight as much as I do??
Pete, bud, I am only 5ft 5in now and weight 120lbs. I am on a whole heck of alot more meds than you, be it begrudgingly..still a whole heck of alot more than you. It barley touches my pain. I live on the level 8-9 express daily. On good days...
~~>   I think you have bigger problems than just youir pain!
Yea and the BIGGER problem is some joke of a doctor who thinks that she leave you in the dark and barley able to function for 6 months because she has a superiority complex.
And honestly the shirnk part is right. But not for the reasons she thinks. The bigger problem is now you are going to have a VERY hard time trusting doctors in the future. It will be very hard to trust any kind of medical personel after this. Were talking about MONTHS of being treated badly, ignored, violated and pourposfully left in severe pain. Its gonna take alot of work for you to be able to trust again after this. I am so terribly sorry she has done this to you.
I know you want to work. We all know you and know how much you have hated not working. But stop, take a deep breath and remember. If you work at this point you will do irreversable damamge. You physically cannot do it.
Also, just a random thought but, I think she may be one of the reasons why your claim was denied. I know, I know, many factors go into the decisions..but at this point I am wondering just what kind of role she played in the overall decision to deny your claim?
Methadone effecting your heart??? She confusing that with the street druggs?? Wow, this gal is rich. I think for your safety it is time to go. He alterior motives are becomming more and more apparent as time goes by, and they have nothing to do with you. It has everything to do with her personal dogma. This lady is dangerous in the worst kind of way.
I hate to say it, and I KNOW this is the last thing you have time for. But, you need to leave, and yesterday. She is dangerous. Let her play roulette with someone elses life. You don't have the time or the money for her to play with your life.
Get the MRI done, and keep records for yourself. Then get to a new pain management or orthapedic doctor as fast as you can. (Come to think of it, maybe ask your primary for a referral or make appointments while waiting for your MRI appointments)You have got to be upfront about this gal and how long you have been denied proper treatment. Over half her arguments are based on a cenario and a life style which you do not fit and never will. Any good doctor worth his training and education will be able to see what she has tried to do.
This is the LAST thing you need right now. Geeze, I wish she had made her motives more apparent sooner. Would have saved you ALOT of time and money. I am so sorry she did this too you. I am so sorry you have to start the process of finding a doctor all over again. Please, know you are in our prayers. Hang in there and stay strong!

Pete, I'm upset for you having to go thru all that. I don't understand why doctors can't take the time necessary to go over all the information provided to them, to help them evaluate a patient. It sounds like this doctor wants to almost start at square one again, which isn't fair to you. It's also so frustrating to not get the right tests/paperwork when you need them, and to have to wait to get things corrected (I've just discovered I've been waiting months for a surgical. appointment and the doctor never received the necessary paperwork to make an appointment with me).

I hope that the tests she's ordered come back with results that show there are treatments and hope for you. It sounds like you have a lot of medical issues that need to be addressed, and you really do need a supportive doctor to accomplish that. I hope this doctor turns around and starts making your health a priority when she sees you.

Good luck my friend...I'm keeping you in my prayers.

Oh my gosh Pete.....what a witch! I get soooo tired of these docs with a God complex!! I must agree with Dani, it is time to go! That makes me so angry, that someone would do that to you! My sister (damouthy1) and I both went to a pain management clinic thinking he would have several options for our pain. All he wanted to do were facet rhizotomy's. My insurance did not pay for it, so he was basically done with me except for the $200.00, I had to pay out of pocket to take a psychological test to see if I would abuse pain meds. I passed so he prescribed them for me. My sister started getting the treatments and they were horrible to go through, horrible to recover from and then she noticed no help from them....so when she did not want to continue...he was done with her too! Anyway, I did not mean to ramble, I just want you to know that I am very sorry you were put through that! I do not know what you are on for pain, but the way it sounds I am on more then you, and I still have quite a bit of pain! Hang in there Pete......we love ya'!

Take care of you!

Thanks for all the support! I've calmed down a little now and am weighing my options. My problem is that this twit is the third pain doc I've had in 9 months! I'm not sure I have any options! The first I left only because I moved. The second was such a jerk, he didn't evan ask me how I felt and now this! Maybe I'll call my insurance co. and ask them what I can do. I sure don't want to seem like a drug seeker and if I leave this beotch now and anyone asked her, thats what she would say!
All for now, Thanks again!
PS> Dani, I got the last two pain docs on referals from my primary> Yikes!

Oh Pete   I'm so sorry that that witch treated you that way.   I just can't understand these doctors that treat us chronic pain patients that way.  It's so sad.  It makes me very angry that she did this.  (((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))  I'm glad you've  calmed down because she don't even deserve you getting upset the least bit.  My heart goes out to you.  I hope you can find a good pm doctor.  I will be praying for you.  You deserve to have you pain controlled no matter how bad you hurt or don't hurt.  It doesn't matter how much you weigh.  I weigh more than you do and my pm doctor doesn't treat me bad, thank goodness.  I wish you good luck.
love and hugs

Just a suggestion, I have a wonderful pain doctor here in town. You are only an hour away. It might be worth it to try her and her Nurse Practicioner. They are great to me and I've been going there for about 6 years now.

I'm sorry that happened to you. That shouldn't have happened. So you were crying out of frustration and she thinks you need a shrink, wonderful, how sensitive of her? What a jerk! I hate doctors too and I'm a nurse, I know them very well. God complexes are fairly common. It's a shame. I just changed my primary to a new doctor. The new one is so much nicer and cooperative and his office workers are much nicer too.

Well, think about my suggestion, Pete. At least it will be someone that a friend has recommended.

God bless.

I've had a lot going on lately and am just now catching up on posting... but I have been reading - and couldn't believe when I read your post re: your doctor. I would have completely lost it, too. Wow. It's absolutely incredulous that a doctor would be cutting your meds every which way... and then to suggest you return to work????? I just cannot believe she made that comment to you, Pete. I'm so sorry. I would definitely write a letter re: this situation.... please don't just let it go. Even if it just helps one other patient - and makes her "rethink" how crappy her "bedside" manner is - I think it's worth it. I know somebody else offered, but I would be completely willing to write a well-worded, polite but to the point, "outline" of a letter for you...and you could change the details to make it appropriate. You have my e-mail - just e-mail me if I could do this to help you....I wouldn't mind one bit (actually, I'd be quite happy to do it for you!).

I know you feel out of options, but please don't stay w/ someone like this, Pete. You need - and deserve - better. I know how disappointing it is to think you've finally found a doctor that's going to help you.... and, then, things fall to pieces. Been there, done that, and it stinks!

I'm furious thinking about your situation! Re: the referral to a shrink, I probably would have said "Yeah, after seeing you and hearing all your "positive words" - and cutting my meds to pieces - I definitely need a shrink". :(

I hope this all works out for you, Pete... I know it will, but I'm just sorry you have to mess w/ this unneeded BS. You've got enough on your plate than to deal w/ horrible doctors. Keep us posted on what happens... and know we all care about you!

Main Health Problems: Dysautonomia/POTS; CFS/Fibromyalgia; Severe Chronic Hypertension; Hypothyroidism; Hypoadrenalism; Mixed (Obstructive/Central) Sleep Apnea - on Auto BiPap; Depression/Anxiety; Severe Vitamin D Deficiency

Dear Pete
So sorry you have had to deal with this quack of a dr. I can't believe the things she said to you. She is out to lunch for sure. Too bad you were her victim. She needs a lesson or two on a few things.
i hope that things will settle for you soon and that you can get all your tests done in a timely manner.
Please know that we all love you here and we really care about you and your well being. But don't worry about us, we understand you needing to take a break from here for a bit. Take all the time you need. i hope you won't mind if i send you an email or two.

Since we're all have a shot at this and it's about time!!!....I think what angers me the most about this type of doctor and often the general population out there....we are GUILTY of being a drug addict before anyone ever prescribes even one pill! What is with this 'guilt' thing. Taking a psychological test for $200 just to be prescribed pills for pain??? Do they NOT read the literature and research studies on Chronic Pain people and addiction to pain medications??? They are prescribing on their snotty attitudes and hearsay ( IMHO much of that is from the media).

Here's some of what they are ignoring or not bothering to learn. Depending on the study you refer to the problem of addiction in chronic pain patients range somewhere between .3% (.003) and .5% (.005) Let's put that in real people numbers. The .3% is .003 people per 100, .03 people per 1,000 and .3 people in 10,000; 3 people in 100,000. And the other is .5% which is .005 people in a hundred; .05 people in a thousand; .05 people in 10,000; 5 people in 100,000....people with chronic pain who take narcotic pain meds and have any problems with addiction! Does this sound like an epidemic?

I searched around the internet for number of people in the general population who become addicted to drugs. That number is... around 7%!!. Now tell me...WHO has the problem with drugs? The number one problem that brings people to a doctor is pain and they are NOT treating it.

One more thing...here's a tidbit from a good web site about CP patients and how they are not being helped. The link to the page follows. Time for me to get off of my soapbox before I start spewing bubbles..lol

All about:

* Pain Relief

Two new reports highlight the fact that people who are living with significant or chronic pain are undertreated. Specifically, at least 30 percent of individuals with moderate chronic pain and more than 50 percent who are living with severe chronic pain are not receiving adequate pain relief.

“Many people suffer needlessly with pain that could be treated,” according to pain management expert Kathryn Hahn, a pharmacist and affiliate faculty member at Oregon State University and chair of the Oregon Pain Management Commission. Her findings and comments appear in recent issues of the Journal of Pain and Palliative Care Pharmacotherapy and in The Rx Consultant.

Hahn argues that the failure to adequately treat pain associated with a variety of medical problems can be linked to physicians’ personal biases, inadequate training in pain management, and fear of prescription drug abuse. These hurdles need to be overcome, as Hahn says the situation is reaching “crisis proportions.”

Copy this and take it to your physician who is treating you as a guilty, drug seeking addict!

If you're going through hell, keep going.
