Sorry, just venting
I came on here a few months back so happy that the
oxy that I started was doing so good for me. Then I needed it bumped up to 15 mgs. So that has been about 2-3 months now all the sudden I'm in a lot of pain again. I will have to wait it out until the end of August, as that is the next appointment that I have with my Rhuemy is.
Do some people just develop a tolerance to oxy very fast??? I really don't want to keep creeping up and up on the mgs, but the pain, well...I am at the right place, I don't even have to talk about the pain because I know you all know what throbbing pain is.
Have a good weekend everyone.
Taking it one day at a time....

I don't recall what your condition is that is causing you pain, but it is possible that you may have a natural tolerance to this medication. It is also possible that your condition has gotten worse, it is also possible that you are having a temporary flare up or that you may be getting ill or simply feeling more stress for some reason and this is causing you to be more susceptible to pain.

It is easy to think "Hey my meds aren't working" and while that may be true there are also a lot of other possibilities.

Best thing, IMHO is to relax and see what happens in the next week or so.

Also if you do not keep a pain journal you should think about starting to do so. Keep track of pain levels, moods, how you are feeling, etc.

Jim's suggestion of a pain journal is excellent, because maybe it's certain activities (like work?) that exacerbate the pain. Or certain times of the day. Anyway, this would give you some idea if it's the medication wearing off or what other factors may be involved.

Yes, some people do develop tolerance faster. Also, if you've been on different medications before, many of these medications work with the same neurological pathways and so there can be some overlap in developing tolerance to similar medications. But at least it's Friday and hopefully you can relax a bit.

Maybe you can call your doctor if you do determine it's the medication and see if you can get in sooner? Or get on a cancellation list.

I hope you can find bit of relief.

The only med I haven't built up a tolerance to is tramadol. I refuse to take higher doses of narcotics or benzos, so when they stop working I stop using them. For me it's good for muscle pain and at least dulls my spine pain.

Lots of meds now come in Extended Release forms, even in generic. I'm taking tramadol ER twice a day. It's supposed to last 24 hours, but really lasts more like 10. Only one problem: the ER has side effects the Immediate Release doesn't (at least for me). I'm sitting here with a headache and it's too early to take my nighttime dose.

Another solution for some pain: try muscle relaxants in place of narcotics. For my lumbar pain I take Flexeril (at least for now). I'm not real happy with the dizziness and headache it can cause, but it's good to help me get to sleep and stay asleep longer than just pain meds. I'm still up twice in the night, but can get back to sleep for a while.
