Okay, so it has been almost four weeks since they burned the nerve endings in my neck in hopes of no more head and neck pain from my whiplash to no avail. The first week was my best week in the last 7 and a half months, but since then, it hasn't been good. In fact, it has been terrible! I had a few moderate days here in there, but mostly severe.

Monday was a decent day so I figured I would do my neck strengthening exercises they taught me to do in physicaly therapy, you know, the ones that are supposed to help me. Well, I woke up Tuesday feeling horrible, a 8 out of 10. My Relpax didn't work, and neither did the vicaden. I take the topamax, Cymbalta, and Skelaxin (muscle relaxer) as normal as well. Still today it is bad, in fact worse, a 9 out of 10. For the last month I have slept fine, at least 8 hours a night, but yet I am always tired and lethargic. The last tow days I have felt nauseated. My head feels like it is going to explode, and my neck is killing me.

I have spoken with some one who I met on a different forum who was reently in a car accident and had a cervical fusion done due to a bulging disc. She befriended her physical therapist who was in a car accident four years ago, so they can both relate. They both seem to feel that I have a bulging disc or something. I had an MRI a few months back and it came out normal. Is it possible that I could have this? I don't have any numbing or tingling sensation. I just have horrible migraine/tension headaches. They start at the base of my skull and of course go from one temple across my forehead to the other temple. Some times the pain is deep inside my head, like it is the nerve pain. My shoulders feel tense and fatigued as well.

I have a follow-up with the anethesiolgist on Monday but I did put in a call today to let him know how terrible I feel in hopes he can do more testing to see if it is my disc, and to see if he has better pain medicine. I am in so much pain. I have no sick leave so I have to suffer through this at work. It jsut isn't fair!

Thanks for listening to me rant and rave! I hope this is over soon! I hope they can figure out what is wrong with me soon and fix it!

Sometimes it takes a while for a disc to slowly bulge enough to hit a nerve after the initial injury. Same thing happened to me years ago after a motor vehicle accident. It might be useful to have another MRI done and see what's changed in the past few months.

The headaches have been nonstop for 7 1/2 months.

You would think having my nerves blocked almost four weeks ago would diminish any pain. Well, I called the doctor this morning and expalined everything I am feeling to her. She is supposed to run it by the doctor and see if there is anything he can do between now and Monday when I have my follow-up. He is an anethesiologist at a Pain Management Center so I am sure there is not a whole lot he can do I just know the pain is terrible!

Sorry you are having so much pain - that is always so hard.

My thought would be that maybe having them burn the nerve endings in your neck isn't going to help with your headaches. Maybe they are being caused by something else?

I have 3 buldging disks and they have shrunk since the MVA - one of they hits the never roots and the other two just cause pain and tingling. They are part of the reason I never get 8 hours of sleep but I too am so tired all the time. I believe it is the pain is the cause - it takes so much out of us!

Like all of us, I want to hear and learn about any and all options that are available. about 9 months after I was hit, they wanted to burn some of my nerve endings as well. I didn't have it done because I want to try other options other than an invasive treatment - at least until all other things have been tried. I was told it can take a VERY long time to heal and that it deosn't always work.

Anyway, some of the things they think would help, don't and some of the things they thought I had, I didn't and some they thought I didn't, I did! There doesn't seem to be a sure fix for any of our problems and it is so disapointing when one fails. Hopefully you can get some stronger meds and find a new road to take IF you don't start improving soon.

Good luck!

Yea, it doesn't seem that having my nerve endings burned helped, I still have the headaches and the neck aches.

So the doctors office finally called back after 9 hours and he doesn't want to change anything until I see him on Monday. So now stronger pain meds or muscle relaxers. SO in the meantime I am in extreme pain and have to suffer through the weekend. THis is terrible! I know that something is not right here and i hate to have to wait until Monday and I am sure, other than medication there is nothing he can do but refer me. SO once again, I am getting out off. It is so frustrating. I have been pushed away by so many doctors. I am really thinking it has to do with a disk because no matter which way I turn my head, it hurts. Nothing I do gives me relief. And my head hurts so bad at the base of my skull and across my temples and forehead. It just feels like my head will explode

How are you doing tonight Holmesla? Were you able to find any relief today? Hot showers have helped me when my neck/headaches get really bad.

I never found relief on Friday. Saturday was a little bit better and I pretty much rested the majority of the day. But today is a different story. Though it is not as bad as it was on Friday, it is still bad. I took half a vicaden and that actually helped with the headache. I am having some strong muscle spasms in my shoulders. I do have so much house work that I have to do, but I am working slowly and taking lots of breaks. I have my follow-up with my anethesiologist tomorrow, so we will see how that goes. As far as hot showers go, sometimes they do feel good, but sometimes I hurt so bad, just standing up for any period of time seems impossible. SO I tend to take baths.

Hi holmesla !  I wish I could talk to you personally . I suffer the same as you . I have been to soooo many doctors . I have had therapy for a couple a years with no help . I also been going to pain management for 8 years with many painful shots to head and neck with no help . I have no numbness or tingling anywhere. My neck hurts all the time and down to my shoulders and now my shoulder blades. But mostly my neck . Leaving me with almost daily migraines.. Nothing can be found as to what the problem is . I haven't been able to work in years. Praying daily for strength helps me alot . I always wondered if anyone else suffers this way too. I am on many meds.. I know something is not right . I used to be so healthy and worked out all the time and held a job . I am no longer that person .  cry    I also have servere muscle spasms in neck and shoulders, and muscle knotts ....

Hi Faith and welcome to Healing Well's chronic pain forum. Faith would you mind starting a new post of your own with an intro like you have done here. The reason I am asking is I am afraid the other members will not bother reading this post since this is such an old thread as SE said. We do have some members on board here suffering with headaches too. To start a new thread all you have to do is click start new topic at the top on the left, in the heading part maybe type in new to forum & suffering with severe headaches and then click and start typing away. By doing this you will be giving the other members a chance to give you a proper hello.
