My lower spine is burning, right where the injured discs are, at L3-L4 and at L4-L5. I tried heating pad and then an ice pack and it only made the burning worse, so I got up and am sitting up which seems to help some. The pain woke me up! :(

Hi, sorry you're having that pain. I know what it feels like as I keep getting disc herniations and tears. I know when a disc tears and the inside gel comes out, the gel will fill like it's burning the nearby nerves. And also you can feel burning pain when the discs herniated inot nerves; even spasms can cause a burning pain feeling. I have gone thru all this several times. Unfortunately ive not found much that helps it either. I've tried different narcotic pain killers, heat, ice, physical therapy, etc. I did however, have good results after getting epidural injections and nerve blocks. Though these injections are no guarantee & dont help everyone.  My last bout of herniations, thankfully, actually went away on it's own in a couple weeks so I didnt have any treatment. Well I was given percocet, but it didnt help.

Did your doctor give any meds or suggest any further course of action for your pain? Or suggested any injections?

I ended up going to the ER last night cause my entire spine was burning and the pain was unbearable. I was given Valium as a muscle relaxant and a shot of Tramadol. It helped for the time being but then this morning I woke up in pain again and have been in pain most of the day with the burning. The pain have finally gone down some a couple hours ago, and I hope it stays down. I am to stop taking the Soma and start taking the Valium for muscle spasms, and to continue with the Lortab.

Hi Lucia, the Valium worked for my muscle spasms, I just slept 18 hours a day and when I was awake I did not make much sense. Be careful Valium is addictive I was only given 15 of the and had to break those in half.
Don't forget to tell your oown doctor what is working"
Take care

im sorry that your going thru this, valuim 10 has worked for me aswell for spasms , also neurontin helps for the burning from nerve pain. When that usually happens i ask for a toridol injection which usually helps the spasm abit.
Hope your feeling better, take care.

Just FYI but it looks like Grandmaroses accidentally started posting on this old thread from 2007 and it brought it up to the forefront...

I don't think we've seen Lucia around in a long time...
