Hi Cole, I wondered where you had been hiding. Ok, let me get this straight, are you having a lumbar fusion and they are taking bone out of your hip for the fusion? Why are they taking bone from both hips? Normally they only use one hip. Any reason your dr will not get the graft from a bone bank? Have you asked him this? People do seem to complain more about pain from the donor sight than the actual surgery itself. How many levels are being fused? Also, I take it there will not be any hardware involved, is that right. I sure hope so, everyne I know with hardware end up with so much pain, their body does not want to accept that foreign objects and they end having to go back in and remove the hardware.

I know alot of questions but let us know what going on here. Susie

Susie,

I guess I should rephrase that.... I am having my sacro-iliac joints fused. It is a long small joint along the sacrum and the ilium, they place a hollow screw( a monster I might add) through the two bones and pack it with bone, not from the iliatic crest( had that done on my first fusion...and YES it hurt worse than the surgery..for 10 years, no joke if I did a particular movement...WHAMMO...Anyhoo) All the years of having the l4,l5,s1 fused wore out the joints, and man am I in pain these days.....UGH!!.......my last surgery in April was a great success..WHOO HOO!, but alas the triumph is short lived.....My surgeon is also a friend, has is pioneering this technique... just in the last years they have figured out that people are having the wrong diagnosis for fusions, and the sacro-iliac joint is the realy culprit.
I'll be holed up for six weeks on my right side, then 10 weeks after that I have the left side done...UGH! The "GIMP" returns! I'm Getting metal put in me again...I'll be bionic again...YIPPEE!!! just when I got rid of all the metal, they come and put some more back in, (I must really have a magnetic personality ..ha.. ha.. pun intended)
How have you been doing?any new rants or raves?
Cole
