Merry Christmas and Happy New Years to all of you!

I have had CD for the past 20 years ... 6mp brought me into remisssion for over 10 years and med free. June / 06 had what i would say was a pretty bad flare and was put on pred, and 6mp and was brought back to remisssion and now am on just the 6mp.

Anyways what i was wondering is i see some of you talking about being in a little flare and was just curious how you define a small flare?

The reason being is Wed night (3 days ago) I was up most of the night throwing up, terrible pains that would go and come almost like a contraction in my tummy area that would burn and pull then go away only to come back about 20 mins later. Also big time D that just pured out like water.

Now 3 days later i still have the water D and the contracting pains are light and only come maybe every 3-4 hours ... each day they have been lighter and further apart. Tummy is still tender to touch but near as bad as the first 2 days were. Even broke out in a nasty cold sore on my lip that i never get!

So now im wondering would this or could this be a small flare or sound like maybe the flu?

Still have the D about every couple hours i have the strong urge to run to the bathroom.

Could some of you describe your flares small and big?

Thanks guys!

Hello there, you are descibing the intestinal flu that is going around but with known Crohn's it is difficult to say it is not your Crohn's.

When my hubby has a little flare he has lots of cramping and the last time he got cold and clammy and went down on me in the front hallway.  He had a temp and he was very weak and pale.  No N/V.  He finally had a BM and started to have D after that.  I think he may have had a partial obstruction  as he has an area of severe narrowing.

Usually his little flares are a lot of cramping with loose freqent  stools. He also can almost always trace it back to something he should not have eaten.

Hope this helps some.

Take care

Kitt

Hi Cath,
You have a good question there, because it seems that people seem to define and tolerate symptoms quite differently. I am currently in what I would consider to be a significant "flare." I saw my GI doc two weeks ago, and told him I felt great and was in remission. It moved quickly from no symptoms at all to lots of spasms, cramping and diarrhea. I was only on Pentasa, and the doc said if I have a flare to re-start the Prednisone. I've been on 30 mg of Prednisone for about 4 days, and I'm still completely miserable...only eating rice, jello, etc. I have a house full of visiting relatives (stress!) and I'm at my wits end. If I'm not better by Jan.2, I will call my doc.
Your description of vomiting certainly can be flu, but being a chronnie, I worry about obstructions. Maybe you should call the doc. I hope this helps..
