Hello all, I have been recently dignosed w/ CD. I was in academy for 4 months with stomach problems and had it looked at finally by a GI and a colonoscopy. Started on prednisone and an antibiotic but it is pretty low doses. anyways i used to lift quite a bit and on the meds my stomach feels pretty good. I was wondering if anyone takes whey protein (or if not what type of protein?) I am 21 and am also wondering if i will be able to drink with my friends again sometime w/o throwing up and making a mess everywhere.

thanks and look forward to hearing from you all

Welcome to the forum...but I am sorry that you are here because of a crohn's diagnosis. First off...don't feel discouraged while on Prednisone. The drug will make you starving, crave salt, retain water, mood swings, and basically just feel crazy. However it seems to work pretty well for many people. I don't take whey protein so I am not too sure about the safety and efectiveness of it, but if you are concerned I would talk to your GI or atleast your General Practitioner. In terms of drinking with your friends again, I would hold off as of right now. Your body is already having a hard time functioning, and throwing alcohol into the mix can mess up even the healthiest of people. You need to be especially careful while you are on medications such as prednisone becasue your liver is what metabolizes medications as well as alcohol...treat it well, you only get one. Best of Luck!
Diagnosed: 2003, age 18 (had issues with it since I was 12)
Meds for crohns: Off all meds for 1 month until I heal. Still on 10mg Prednisone, and 20mg Oxycodone every 3 hours, and Oxycontin 5mg every 12 hours. Also on a bunch of other meds for crohn's and my other glorious diseases.
Other medical issues: Hereditary Spherocytosis (hemolytic anemia) iron deficient anemia, polyarthralgia, ovarian cysts, Migraines
Surgeries: Spleen and gallbladder out at age 6, Tonsils and Adenoids out at age 21. Ileocecal (small bowel) resection on December 13th. Appendectomy during small bowel resection
