I HAD A ULTRA SOUND DONE 2 WEEKS AGO. I WAS TOLD THAT I HAVE SLUDGE IN MY GALL BLADDER. I READ A ARTICLE THAT THIS COMMONLY HAPPENS TO PEOPLE THAT HAVE DISEASES OF THE SMALL INTENSTINE. ANYONE KNOW IF THIS IS TRUE?. I HAVE AN APPT WITH THE GI AT THE END OF THIS MONTH. HES NOT CONVINCED THAT I HAVE IBD, THINKS ITS IBS. (I HONESTLY HAVE HAD EVERY SYMPTOM OF CROHNS FOR YEARS, JUST NOT AT THE SAME TIME AND SEVERITY VARIES). THE TECHNICIAN THAT DID THE ULTRA SOUND TOLD ME THAT IT TOOK 10 YEARS FOR THEM TO FIGURE OUT SHE HAD CROHNS.  THIS JUST SEEMS UNREAL.  ITS ONLY BEEN 6 MONTHS SINCE I FIRST WENT TO MY PCP about ABDOMINAL PAIN AND PASSING BLOODY MUCUS.  FROM WHAT IVE READ HERE I GUESS ITS NOT ABNORMAL TO GO FOR YEARS BEING SICK AND NOT HAVE A DEFINATE ANSWER.  I HAVE AN APPT WITH THE GI  AT THE END OF THE MONTH. ILL WAIT AND SEE WHAT HE SAYS about THE GALL BLADDER THEN.  ANY INFORMATION IS APPRECIATED confused

I have not heard that..........I had sludge in gall bladder and no Crohn's.  My hubby has Crohn's and gall bladder fine.

Your caps are on which makes your post hard to read. Please do not use the caps for your whole post..........thanks :-)

My health problems began this way, tremendous amount of stress at the time, gall bladder problems, and they said "sludge".

It's pretty hard to show a definitive correlation between bad gallbladders and small bowel disease. Not to say there isn't one, but lots of people have sludge in their gallbladders and don't have any symptoms, let alone small bowel disease. Essentially, the gallbladder's job is to store bile, which is produced by the liver. It will shoot out the bile into your small intestine at the duodenum.

Some people find that having their gallbladders removed results in chronic diarrhea because the liver is ejecting bile directly through it's duct system into the small intestine instead of the gallbladder storing it and releasing it in response to food intake. So if you already have diarrheal issues, that is something to take into consideration - removing the gallbladder may actually make the diarrhea worse.

I had gallstones a couple years ago and had it removed because I had biliary colic (where stones intermittently block the exit of bile and cause pain). Even before the gallbladder came out I had diarrhea a bazillion times a day, and I continue to have it at least 10 times a day now, in addition to a bunch of other IBD-like symptoms. Although they've never found concrete evidence of IBD. So, you are not alone in this!

I had sludge in my gallbladder and also like a filmy type of divider in my gallbladder (kinda divided it in two). It started causing problems and I had it taken out. Many on this board have had there gallbladders removed also.
Been living with Crohn's Disease for 32 years.  Currently on Asacol, Prilosec 60 mg, Estrace, Prinivil, Diltiazem, Percoset prn for pain and Calcium.  Resections in 2002 and 2005.  Recently diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and doing tests to see if I have Inflammatory Arthritis or AS.

Not familiar with "sludge" but I did have my Gall Bladder out in March '07 due to GallStones. I have read more than once that Gall Bladder issues are linked to Crohn's. Given my experience, I tend to believe it. tongue

Huh Sludge in the gallbladder. I have heard of this occuring if you are on TPN for a long long period of time, but not just becasue of having IBD. I had my gallbladder out when I was 6 so I know the glorious feeling. However I had gallstones, which was not fun at all. From what I can remember the surgery isnt too bad, just hurts when you wake up, but I had open surgery then because they didnt really do laproscopic. Hope you feel better soon!
Diagnosed: 2003, age 18 (had issues with it since I was 12)
Meds for crohns: Off all meds for 1 month until I heal. Still on 10mg Prednisone, and 20mg Oxycodone every 3 hours, and Oxycontin 5mg every 12 hours. Also on a bunch of other meds for crohn's and my other glorious diseases.
Other medical issues: Hereditary Spherocytosis (hemolytic anemia) iron deficient anemia, polyarthralgia, ovarian cysts, Migraines
Surgeries: Spleen and gallbladder out at age 6, Tonsils and Adenoids out at age 21. Ileocecal (small bowel) resection on December 13th. Appendectomy during small bowel resection
