Hi,

I am Kitt and I volunteered to moderate this forum as the topic is close to my heart. I am a retired RN, 26 years working in ER/ICU and then as the Nurse Manager of Emergency Services and Respiratory Care. My husband and I have 4 children, one of our boys was killed in a car crash in 1990.

I went to nursing school after my husband had his first surgery and was diagnosised with Crohn’s. I was told he did not have cancer but it was “just as bad”. I decided I needed to become a nurse to help take care of my husband and also I might someday have to support our family.

My husband has had 3 major surgeries in the 31 years since he was diagnosised. He has become a bit of a hermit over the years as his Crohn’s has dictated what he can and cannot do. He is also anxious in a crowd and his diet does not always work well with social functions.

As you can read in my signature, I have my own issues and my husband and children have always been there for me.

I joined HW after being with a strictly Mental Health site as a moderator for 10 months. I felt I needed to branch out and belong to a group that covered medical and mental health issues.

Now my secrets, I ride a Harley motorcycle, I love chocolate, country music and pizza..........I also love people and working with them. I have always been a care giver but have learned to take care of me now so I have no more guilt over doing something just for me.

We have a Doberman, 2 cats, 2 Harleys and lots of snow and cold weather this time of year.

I believe I have a good sense of humor and I love to help others. Team work is very important to me. I am proud to be a part of this forum.

Hey wake up, I am not done yet.............kidding..........thats all folks.

I am glad to be here.

Kitt

welcome Kitt,
I promise I'll be good..........................well as good as I can be. On the other hand depending on how I feel I can barely stand myself some days. I just have to remind myself we are all survivors. HW is such a great global support network.

Hi Kitt, I am glad you are here. You sound like a very caring person. Your comment about the doctor telling you that your husband's Crohn's was just as bad a cancer reminded me of when I first dealt with this disease and didn't know what was going on. I was very sick and finally wound up in the ER after going to my doctor with all the problems but not getting any answers. It was in the ER that the doctor told me that he thought I had either E.Coli or Crohn's Disease. He told me to hope and pray that I had E.Coli because that was so much better than having Crohn's and it could be cured.

Hi Kitt I am to a wife of a crohnie and we are in a battle with this disease. He is now getting IV therapy for antiboitics and will have to have TPN this week and they are going to start Remicade anyway to slow the disease down he very sick and want it to stop. He's had CD since 1981 when he was 18 years old. I met Dave in 1985 and he told me about his Disease we've been married for almost 19 years. We have 3 boys all teenagers. Dave had a ileostomy done in 1994 when I was pregnant with our last child. Then in 2001 they had to remove it a put it on the opposite side because the disease had a fiscula and need emergency surgery. It's hard to deal with this alone and no one too talk to. I've been keeping a journal this time so when we go to the doctors I know what going on each visit. Right now he has 2 fiscula that tunneled through his back muscle and is cause infections in the lower back and has to wear a ostomy bag on the back so he at less he could go to the doctor without leaking every where. Well sorry I spilled my beans with ya but need to talk. Dancepeg
