So I just had my 2nd ERCP in 2 mos. My GI was unable to get into the dilated common bile duct ( exit located in the duodenum), thought maybe it was due to scarring from crohns/choledocal cyst/diverticulum. So he referred me to another GI more specialized in liver disease. Yesterday had the 2nd one, and he got in, placed a stent and did a sphincterotomy. Also took a pathology sample and now I have to possibly get an upper endoscopy in about 2 weeks for an U/S needle biopsy by a 3rd GI. He said the obstruction was from outside the duct, in the pancreas, which made it look like a bile duct cyst. He also said the bile started flowing out very well after opening the sphincter. A lot to absorb, while waking up from iv concious sedation. My sister was there to listen.  I did ask if anything was related to crohn's scarring and he said no, but that my anatomy was "interesting". So keep your fingers and toes crossed that all is benign. I have had a quite a lot of discomfort in the right upper abd since but mosly related to gas I think. I was thinking about the recent thread on Questran which is bile salt related and can help with D. Maybe now I won't need any. I only went to BR about 3 times today as opposed to 6 or 7.

Ouch, I had clogged bile ducts last year, I had about 15 pancreatic attacks that year, thats a whole lot of Doctors in the ER telling me I'm a drug seeker, mental patient and my favorite "Have you tried a tums?"

Long story short, the gi went in, sliced open the ducts, widened them and cleared the clogs, went home that day, woke couple hours later in the worst pain ever, my pancreas revolted and turned in to full blown pancreatitas, darn dude, 7 days of watching my hospital roomates get food wheeled to them 3 times a day while I starved on a saline iv...

Can you say thank you dilaudid?

I havent had any pancreas problems or bile duct problems since the widening, so them saying your bile was flowing well sounds like a good sign, I'm rooting for ya, can't say enough about who bad that pain was...

I begged the ambulance driver to knock me out, I offered the guy money, honest schumck (kidding) let me scream all the way there :P

They did tell me that peancreatitis was a major complication of this procedure, due to the area where the widening is. I was good last time, but this time am feeling a lot of upper abd pain. I won't go in the hosp again unless I can't hold food down. I have lortab which is doing ok right now. I am so glad to hear that you have had no probs since. I have cared for pts in the past with severe pancreatitis like you, and believe me, they LOOK sick.

Got my monkeys on it tinglebell! Hope you're feeling better soon! I know this must be very painful for you as I have a lovely floating gallbladder stone that likes to block my duct just for fun! Seriously, I am interested in your situation because I have CD in my duodenum as well. Hang in there!

Thanks. As long as I don't eat, I'm fine. After a meal, I start with pain in about 10 min. Woke up fine this morning and now since breakfast, it hurts. Of course I ate too much, but being on pred, my appetite is still very good.

Update. I am still having RUQ pain, but I think I was better for a couple of days. My biopsy was neg from the brushings of my common duct so I saw my 3rd GI doc on Tues and am scheduled for an EUS (endoscopic ultra-sound) with possible FNS (fine needle biopsy) of pancreas or whatever he finds on Friday. He said there are 2 strictures, one near the opening into the duodenum and one farther down, he thinks from the pancreas. This new one also thinks my pain might be related to crohn's/stricture as opposed to where they put the stent in. He said the pain would be epigastric if from the stent. I asked him if it could be a stricture from crohn's and he sadi, are you sure it's not UC? I said positively crohn's and then he said maybe He'd be able to write me up as the first one with strictures from crohn's!!! Don't know if he meant sclerosing cholangitisr what. CONFUSING. What a diff in docs. I like the 2nd one the best. He had called my orig Gi and discussed the case with him, this one didn't remember me from "Adam" until I mentioned he had seen me in the recovery area after my last procedure. Oh well, looks like I really need some fingers and toes crossed now. SCARY. I am usually responding to posts, not starting them, and now I need another started with a new sx, ringing of the ears. It never ends it seems. Thanks all.
