Heya,
So last night was a weird night! Basically in the space of about 3 hours my left hand/wrist/lower fore arm swelled massively and went tingly and had limited movement but no more pain than what i usually have with mild arthritis, phoned NHS helpline who told me to go straight to a&e where they told me it looked like I'd definitely broken a bone (even though I tried to assure them I'd done no such thing and was pretty sure I'd know if I'd broken something!) 2 hours and an xray later they agree, nothing broken. So now they decide I have an infection, bloodtests are done another hour wait and nope no infection. They were stumped and told me they had no idea what to do to help really so told me to go home keep it elevated in a sling and take painkillers and ice it, give it a week or two etc and to see my rheumotoligist when I can which won't be for ages. So basically I'm telling you all this as could really do with some advice! Has anyone else ever had a swollen limb before (like fluid retention etc)?? and what did you do to make it more comfortable? Would a bandage help or make it worse? What did you take or do to help with pain/swelling??
I do have Crohn's arthritis in wrists but even the doc agreed the swelling isn't characteristic of arthritis inflammation its more like water/fluid retention even though my wrists are slightly arthritic at the moment. Just don't have a clue what to do so if anyone can help or suggest anything I really would be so grateful!

I am actually seeing my Rheumy Jan 30th and plan to mention a swollen hand I have been having. It also hurts for me and I have done nothing to injure it!

My right hand is larger than my other hand and it is frustrating. I have also been told I may have mild carpal tunnel but this has never happened to me before. I am hoping my rheumy can tell me more. Some days I can’t stand it. Sometimes my other hand swells some too but the right one hurts and is more noticeable. It seems to happen in the morning the most and my arm hurts some also.

I hope you get answers soon!

Karen

With your description, I would be very worried about the possibility of a blood clot in the upper arm. I would not wait to see the rheumatologist. I would go to your GP tomorrow, ask about the possibility of a blood clot, and inquire what other tests they could do.

I hope you feel better soon.
