I just bought the book and am wondering if I can start in the middle of the book rather than do the fast cleanse thing.  I need results quick and thought this would help!!  Anyone else try this as well??]

Thanks
Chris

I'm not sure I completely understand your question. Do you mean can you start in Phase 2 or 3 rather than Phase 1?

Yes, can you just jump into the middle...and since I am still flaring and have been eating very bland foods (low residue, low fiber) how do you eat all those salads, fruits and veggies they recommend. I think that would just put me over the edge????

Thanks
Chris

I know what you mean...  I'm currently reading The Great Physician's Rx book which also mentions the Makers Diet.  Right now, I'm also on a bland, low-fiber diet...and it's killing me!  I really WANT to eat healthy foods, but pretty much all veggies are out (either b/c of the fiber content or the gas production).  And I'm having to cut out acidic foods (tomatoes, oranges, etc.) b/c I have ulcers in addition to Crohn's.  And I'm not really a big fan of meat, either.  I feel like all I eat are animal crackers, Cheerios and diced peaches.  I just bought some of that Boost nutritional drink yesterday...the chocolate flavor isn't too bad...and it has a lot of vitamins & minerals in it.  You might try something like that...  I'll let you know how it works out...and if I find anything 'exciting' that won't kill my tummy, I'll let you know!  Hang in there :)

I'm obviously not an expert or a doctor or anything...(disclaimer :-) ) And I think CrazyHarry, who is the resident expert on this diet, is away on vacation... But I know he would say start in Phase 1--it's the ONLY way. It breaks the body's dependence on carbs and has a detoxing effect.

That said, since you're in the midst of a flare, here's what others might recommend. We just had a post here titled "Has anybody tried a liquid diet to achieve remission?" Here's the link:

http://www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=17&m=1010467

You can read my posts there about my son doing this for 9 days to stop a flare. Our doctor told us it would take longer, but thankfully it didn't. Others posted that they do the same thing and gave tips....Maybe it would work for you!!! The important thing here: A liquid diet is clinically proven to be as effective as prednisone in stopping a flare. Just ask Writer, she is the expert on this. Anyway, one thought might be to try an elemental or semi-elemental liquid diet for a few weeks to calm things down, and then very slowly re-introduce solid foods that are part of Phase 1 of the Maker's Diet. CrazyHarry will tell you he started in Phase 3, saw a little improvement, but a few months later re-started the diet in Phase 1 and began to have drastic positive results.

We started the diet in Phase 3, but my son wasn't flaring at the time. In fact, technically he may have been in remission.

If possible, you might want to search the archives for CrazyHarry's previous posts on the diet. He gives lots of good information and encouragement.

These are just my thoughts. I hope this helps a bit! Good luck to you!

If you are gonna obstruct because of any of the veggies, then only eat ones that you can mash/puree or cook very well.

Also, chew your food very very well, until it is complete mush. The MD suggests this as well. You can try eating alot of the soft mushy foods of the MD like the soups, yogurts, smoothies, etc.

Oh, if you're not taking a probiotic, you should look into it. It is an important part of this diet.

Best wishes!
