Ok Someone in here had mentioned some diets to me. Makers diet and SCD (I think i'm not sure) I did find some info on the low residue diet but I was searching through the old posts and I just didn't see what this person was mentioning. I guess I am forgetful I forgot who it was that told me about it but they said if I didn't find it to let them know so I am hoping you are reading this! :-) I could use your help. Thanks a million, I appreciate it! I think I am going to drive my GI nuts when I go in because I have a ton of question for him and I am going to ask to see a nutritionist that knows about crohn's disease. I just don't want to go see one without any knowledge at all.

Thanks,

Amanda: age 23 happily married for 6 years
Mother to Kirstiana 5, Savannah soon to be 2, Halen 11 weeks
I have had symptoms since a young child but I was FINALLY diagnosed 1/14/2008!
  • Currently taking: Pentasa 500 mg 2 tablets 3 times daily  Darvocet 1 tablet every 6 hours as needed (I can't take due to watching my children it makes me drowsy and sick) Prednisone 60 mg to decrease by 10 mg weekly until down to 2.5mg Ranitidine 300 mg 1 tablet twice daily Women's one a day multi-vitamin with double the calcium once daily

I have no family or friends around me other than my husband and children so I very greatly appreciate this group and i'm hoping to become a regular. You are all great people! (I also need to add my father in law does live fairly close as well..I don't want to leave him out.)

Were you looking for the low residue diet info or the Makers and SCD? I am the one who is living on the low residue diet with success. A few others are on it too.
Been living with Crohn's Disease for 32 years.  Currently on Asacol, Prilosec 60 mg, Estrace, Prinivil, Diltiazem, Percoset prn for pain and Calcium.  Resections in 2002 and 2005.  Recently diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and doing tests to see if I have Inflammatory Arthritis or AS.

In addition to the link above, to CrazyHarry's experiences with The Maker's Diet (book authored by Jordan Rubin), info about the SCD (Specific Carbohydrate Diet) can be found at:

Also, there is a book called "Breaking the Vicious Cycle" that talks about SCD. If you look at it on Amazon.com, for instance, you will see a lot of testimonials.

The following link takes you to the Diet and Nutrition page of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation's Web Site (it talks about the SCD diet, too)

My doctor did suggest the low residue diet to me he just didn't give me any specifics or info since it wasn't an actual visit rather just the ending to the colonoscopy when I was still drowsy and out of it. I did find some food for the low residue diets. Do you have any great recipes you could suggest?

I just also wanted to find out information on the other diets as well.

Thanks.

I totally saw that and when I decide what books I want to buy I am going to do that just to support the site. I was even looking at the merchandise. I was thinking about getting either the tote bag or the messenger bag.. lol Then when I'm sitting in the drs office which I often am with either myself or one of the kids and I don't feel like having a huge diaper bag or don't have the need for it I can just pull out my book and have my water with me..etc.. plus its helping the site.

No not any special recipes per say, but I can tell you cutting out all red meat has really helped me. I kept having partial obstructions, and found out on my own, that red meat is very hard to digest. Have heard it has to literally rot in your intestines to digest. Yuck! I followed the diet for about a month literally, but have been able to add a few things back into it. Since what we can eat is individual I can only share what has worked well for me. No dairy, no red meat, no red sauces. I eat alot of fish, turkey and chicken. As far as fruits I eat ALOT of banana's. Veggies, quite honestly not too many, but I do eat alot of baked potatos. Its very simple foods that are easy to digest. I am married to a Mexican and actually eat alot of beans too. I don't know why but they don't bother me. Keep a food diary and see what bothers you and what doesn't. I know if it weren't for this diet I would constantly be back in the hospital. Also, this diet isn't quite as restrictive as the others. At least in my opinion. Good luck with whatever you decide.
