I keep running over yesterday's ER visit in my head trying to figure this all out. I don't understand why I keep getting dehydrated. I always drinking water & I am not having the big D right now. My urine was very dark yellow & I haven't been having very much output lately, that's for sure. I just can't figure it out. It's crazy. Let me know what you all think. It's the second time in 8 days that I ended up needing an IV for dehydration.

I am also frustrated, AGAIN. The ER doc wanted me to see my doc TODAY, and he said if not today, then AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. He was firm about that. So I called my doc on the way home from the ER yesterday & told them the scoop & they called me back today & the nurse said that I don't need to be seen if I am feeling better & just drink plenty of fluids & take whatever they prescribed. Ugh.

They also told me to try to get a quicker appt with the GI, but I know that is not going to happen.

I am a little mad that they gave me Toradol at the ER for that migraine. They knew my GI history & knew that I have had intestinal bleeding but they still gave it to me. I looked it up online to see what it was & found out it was a NSAID & shouldn't be given to anyone with GI bleeding or ulcers. Grrr..... I hope this doesn't make my GI issues worse.

I hate to even be posting & bugging you guys. I don't even know if CD is my DX. I don't know what to do I am so confused. Maybe this is all in my head or something.

I think a good idea would be to actually track how much liquid you are taking in. Take a half-liter bottle and put a little check mark on it every time you fill it up, and only drink from that bottle so you can keep track. It may be that you're just not drinking as much as you think you are! Also, mix it up so you're not drinking just plain water all the time; try a little Pedialyte or non-caffeinated tea or diluted Gatorade. Also keep track of how often you pee. Do that for a couple of days and see what happens. I am glad you are at home, anyway, and not having diarrhea. As far as the GI goes, if you want to see him, set up an appointment for as soon as possible; it's up to you to decide if you should be seen!

I haven't seen a GI yet. That's the thing. I just got a referral the other day. And it is a high priority, but still I can't see her until Feb 13th. But I do have an appt, anyway. With all that weight loss, it's nuts. Hopefully the steroids they just had me on fixed the D problem I had been having. I did have a bm today (I was constipated after the steroids, before the steroids I was having diarrhea) & it was really thin & not diarrhea but looser than my usual bm (used to be pellets, LOL).

I normally drink 60 oz of water a day. I drink bottled waters, so I know pretty much how much. Isn't that enough water?

I have had a lot of the dehydration issues. I was literally being told that I wasn't drinking water when I was. Thats all I drink pretty much is water and I always have it near me. Sometimes I wonder if the doctors are really listening. I hope the meds they gave you don't bother you.
Wishing you well,

You do??? I keep getting this look like why aren't you drinking? My doctor just said to make sure I drink fluids. I AM! And still I keep getting dehydrated. It's a puzzle to me. I always have water with me, too. I even took one to the ER, but left it in the car. Now looking back, I realize how dehydrated I was.... my lips were so chapped & my mouth was dry, but I kept drinking water all through the night & before I went to the ER. I may never figure this out....

Good Morning, I believe you were drinking but if I remember you were also vomiting?  So you most likely were losing fluids and unable to retain your replacement fluids.
There are other causes for dehydration so it would not hurt to make your appointment with your regular physician as you want to see him.  Just telling you by phone that you do not need to be seen is not the correct response from his office. Call and make an appointment.
You are your own best advocate so please take charge and get to the clinic.
Take care and keep posting. Hugs to you.

If you didn't have D how did you know to go to the ER w/ your dehydration? I am not calling you a liar, rather, I feel dehydrated a lot too and never know how to tell when it is bad. I think water just goes through me too quick b/c I do pee a lot. Ive been carrying water w/ me lately too and getting a lot more in. But if you already do that I don't know what more you can do besides switching to pedialyte or smart water

I found this link above with some causes for dehydration. I didn't really know much about it until your post and i started to look it up, so thank you for bringing it up. It's a good topic to discuss, since we're all kinda at risk for it. Check out the symtpoms aswell. It's an informative article.

I was gagging, like vomiting, but nothing really coming out but a little spit/slime. I wasn't producing much urine, but the reason we went to the ER was because I was out of it. I couldn't barely stand & I couldn't hold my head up. I didn't realize it was dehydration. I thought it was lack of nutrients, from the malabsorbtion.

I am going to try gatorade or smar***er or pedialyte periodically to make sure I don't get dehydrated. It's just weird. I guess I just have to pay more attention to my body & notice when I am not producing urine. It's just that I ASSUMED since I do drink water & was drinking water that I COULDN"T get dehydrated. I guess that's not so.

I thought maybe you all have had times where when you were a little constipated, that you still got dehydrated. I thought maybe it was due to something with the absorbtion of liquid/water in the intestines or something like that.... I guess not.... Thanks for all the info.

The low potassium suggests that this isn't simple dehydration. Have your doctor examine the lab results from the er and run any neccessary tests. Also make sure you keep your potasium levels up because low levels can cause neurological symptoms.

They told me at the ER that it wasn't that low. They hooked up a potassium bag to my IV, and about 20 minutes later when my arm began to ache, they unhooked it & gave me a couple horse pills. They didn't seem to think it would affect me that much. I guess I need to get the lab results from the blood they took from me.

Now I have been peeing out my a** last night. I went 4 times between 3:30 am - 5:30 am. But my hubby had the runs too, so maybe I just got a bug or ate something that wasn't too good....

So now I get a call from my PCP saying that she has the results of those blood tests she did before I went to the ER. I guess my protein was high... And my WBC, but she said that could be due to the steriods. I have to do them again in a day or so. Anyone else have this result before?
