This is what my doctor decided was causing that pain in my right side, near the ribs.  I've never had an abdominal mass before and am unsure if it's a big deal.  Does anyone have experience to share?  Thanks!

It depends entirely what the mass is. If it's from inflammation and swelling, treatment for Crohns should help. But if it's scarring or some kind of tumor, it may well require surgery or at least some more diagnostic efforts like MRIs or bipsies to tell. I'd definitely ask the doctor for some clarification . . . "mass" can mean a lot of things, some minor, some very serious.

I recently had bowel resection surgery.  It was supposed to be laparoscopic, but when the doc got into my abdomen he realized that I had an inflammatory mass the size of a grapefruit at my terminal illeum. He converted to open abdomen surgery so he could remove the mass and discovered that my intestine had attached to my ureter and also to my ovary/fallopian tube.   He ended up taking about 18inches total of my small intestine and part of my right sided large intestine.  about a month before my surgery, I had a CT scan/entercolysis done and the mass did not show up so it was quite a suprise to wake up and hear the news.

s5599, Good Morning.  I am sorry to hear your have a mass.  May I ask, how did your physician dx this mass and what tests have been done or are being ordered.  I agree with the others, many things can be an abdominal mass.

If you have any futher info that you can share it would help to give you more info.  Gentle hugs to you and keep on posting.
