Thanks, Reef for posting those! I watched the all. Thank God for John Herman-Taylor and friends who are delving into this further when others are turning a blind eye.

Side note: Why the hokey, fake-suspense-filled music in the background??? confused

Nice links. Interesting and scary to say the least. Dr. Taylor makes a compelling case for MAP as being a trigger if not a cause of Crohn's combined with a genetic predisposition. He states that 87% of Crohn's patients , 75 % of IBS sufferers, and 15% of the general population test positive for MAP. It should be noted from what I have read that MAP is very difficult to culture, so the results could be even higher. It must also be noted that this was from a small sample of people and I would hope larger studies are underway. Dr. Taylor's research also seems to indicate that the incidence of CD is increasing at an alarming rate.

If our milk and meat(I like red meat too and usually tolerate it well)and hand made cheese(another food I like and tolerate well) are infected and this bacteria may also be in our water supply(as his tests have shown), then no one is safe from possible infection. However, it seems that only those with a certain genetic(defect) are fully susceptable to developing Crohn's.

If Dr. Taylor's treatment could produce long remissions or a cure in the individuals where it was successful. On the other hand, even if Dr. Taylor's treatment worked, one may be reinfected rather easily. However, if it is successful for a majority of Chronies, then why are the British government doing more about it then the US government since we are supposed too have more resources? Why do our most of doctors and research go into treating symptoms instead of a cure for the disease?

Found a link to a relatively recent Australian study:

Anyone have other info on thisRifabutin/Clarithromycin antibiotic therapy he discussed?

There's actually a trial goin on in Washington DC for the anti-MAP antibiotics. http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00513552?cond=%22Paratuberculosis%22&rank=1

There's a guy who claims he's cured of Crohn's through the antibiotics and has set up a website talking about the treatment.

It's true the antibiotics would not protect you from future infections, however Dr. Hermon Taylor has created a vaccine which should "cure" the infection if that's what is causing the Crohn's. Unfortunately they still need close to a million dollars in private funding before they start testing it on humans.

A million dollars doesn't sound like that much, in the scheme of things...

Thanks reef08. More nice info. Be interesting to see results after study concludes in March.

Ivy-you're right, a million dollars doesn't sound like much, especially since the medical costs and lost productivity costs are probably in the hundreds of millions if not billion of dollars(not to mention the physical and emotional suffering we all go through)
Unfortunately, once you have a vaccine or cure, Big Pharma loses out on hundreds of millions of dollars or more of easy profit and they don't like that. If you are cured, all their repeat customers stop buying their product and that is just unacceptable to them. So I'm sure they will do their utmost to make sure it fails. Hopefully some private individuals can bypass Big Pharma and their FDA cohorts and give a potential vaccine/cure a fighting chance.

Look at the news coming out about the coverup of vytorin from Merck and Scherring-Plough sitting on the results of their own trials showing their drug useless as they raked in over 10 billion dollars selling what amounted to a wild west con artist selling snake oil. Not that most if not all haven't done that before-Merck just happens to get caught once in a while.
