okay so 2 weeks ago I was dx'd with these, had a colorectal surgeon take a look and he said he did not want operate per the fact Im on remicade and imuran and he said he didnt want to risk fistula reoccurance or possible longterm effects of surgery....has anyone had these occur and if so were u able to take care of them topically and how long did it take? if not ...if u had surgery did you have fistula problems afterwards?

Anyone can give up, it's the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, that's true strength

Diagnosed with severe Crohn's colitis in May 2005. I deal with daily arthritis ALL over my body, cystic acne, & fibromyaglia. Have taken Imuran, Remicade, TPN, Colozal, Entocort, Flagyl, PamineForte, Cipro, Dicyclomine, Prednisone, Asacol, Prevacid, and the list goes on. Currently on Remicade every 4wks, 20mg Pred, Asacol, 75mg Imuran, etc.

Check out the pics in this link, the top set is hemmies, the pics under the hemmies are perianal crohns skin tags, be sure you know what yours are because they are NOT treated the same.

okay I had the hemmies..but also had what looked like those elephant ears...not to be TMI OR GROSS but the "supposed" thrombosed hemmies were located in between the vagina and anus and looked to be a pink fleshy buldge and HURT SOOOOO BAD....I had 3 docs say they were thrombosed including the surgeoun that looked but they did not want to cut...now I look tonight and dont have hemmies near anus but that same problem again in between. Im in a new state and dont have my old crohnnie doc and wondering if I went to ER would they want to do surgery. I JUST REALLY dont want fistulas

Do NOT let anyone perform ANY kind of surgery on what ever it is you have down there until you have at least 3 REALLY GOOD opinions that agree on what exactly you do have...believe me, having surgery (getting the banding) done on the crohns perianal skin tags (aka; elephant ears) was the worst thing I had done regarding my CD, as my skin tags were mistaken for hemmies...getting them banded while flaring almost 17 yrs ago now has kept them in a constant flare ever since and alot of grief, a real pain in the arse!

Get your GI to give you a script for cortifoam and use it for a long time and see if this helps shrink them down, apparently that's how inflammed perianal crohns skin tags are to be treated NOT WITH ANY SURGERY, as the area will not heal...and can possibly create other problems like fistulas when getting them cut off, or abcesses.

If I'm able to save as many people as possible from the absolutely horrible and painful experiance I went through with my anal tags then I'm very happy to do so...like I said, a really good colon and rectal surgeon who saw me after the fact advised me that I should have been given cortifoam until they shrunk up then once completely shrunk up they could have been snipped off in the colo-rectal surgeon office with no problems, not guaranteeing that new ones wouldn't appear but at least the ones snipped off wouldn't.

Please tread with caution, if they look like the elephant ears to you, make sure no one tries to convince you otherwise.

I had hemmie surgery and my skin tags removed last spring before I knew I had Crohn's.  Big mistake.  Literally, within a week of the sugery the skin tags grew back.  It's been 10 months, and the incisions aren't 100% healed.  Finally getting close, but not there yet.  This was a miserably painful surgery.  It was two months before I was able to sit normally again.  Be very sure you know what's going on before you let anyone operate on them.

Gawd bedktold, just reading about you having your skin tags removed makes my butt pucker.

The reason why they don't heal well (if at all) is because it's diseased tissue regarding the perianal crohns skin tags.

I hope you find relief soon, try lots of sitz baths with tons of epsome salt.
