Does anyone on this board have ANOTHER autoimmune disease on top of the Crohn's?

I'm curious because I think I may also have Rhumatoid Arthritis but haven't been Dx with that.  Curious if you can even HAVE 2 at one time...I guess you can?!
Diagnosed in October, 2003 at age 31.
36/F/SC
Currently taking Colazal, Nexium, One-A-Day multivitamin
Secondary conditions: mouth ulcers, joint pain, extreme fatigue

It's quite common to have more than one, infact it's probably more rare to only have one...I have eczema as well as crohns.

And yes, you can certainly have more than one affecting you at the same time.

I agree that it is probably more unique to have only one. I have RA as well.

For those of you who also have RA associated with Crohn's, how does it present itself in you?

Could not walk without feeling like I was breaking bones. But that could have been the serum sickness or lupus...

Once you have one autoimmune disease, you are at higher risk for developing another. I am so sorry to hear you may have the RA too.

Anyone can give up, it's the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, that's true strength

Diagnosed with severe Crohn's colitis in May 2005. I deal with daily arthritis ALL over my body, cystic acne, & fibromyaglia. Have taken Imuran, Remicade, TPN, Colozal, Entocort, Flagyl, PamineForte, Cipro, Dicyclomine, Prednisone, Asacol, Prevacid, and the list goes on. In addition to the other autoimmune diseases, I have Scleritis of the Eye.

Dave D.

Retired male in late 60's. Perforated Colon in 92. Diagnosed as Ulcerative Colitis in 93. Uncontrolled flareup in 97 dictated J-pouch surgery. 04 Capsule endoscopy diagnosed as Crohns not UC. Emergency surgery in 05 to remove lodged camera capsule. Biopsies positively diagnosed Crohns at that time. 12/06 Unsucessfully tried Naltrexone(LDN). 2/07 developed scleritis of the eye, tearing and detaching the retina. Treated with high doses of Prednisone. 6/07 Thought eye was healing and started taking Entocort counting on the residual (non-systemic portion) as treating the eye. Wrong. In October eye was not stabilized. 11/07 Started Remicade to try and reduce the ocular inflamation of the Scleritis since I had been requiring more and more Prednisone to keep the eye quiet. 12/07, retina tares and detaches again so it's still not working. Now blind in that eye. 1/08 now taking Remicade monthly with no real progress treating inflamed eye. Vision still <20/200. Inflamation starting to show up in good eye. I haven't given up yet, but it doesn't look promising.
Married with 4 grandkids.

RA presents with intermittent fevers, morning stiffness lasting more than one hour, red inflamed joints, gell phenomonon (if you are in one place for a while like in a car than when you first move your joints open very slowly like they w ere full of gell) fatuque. Not everyone has all of the syymptoms nor do you have them all the time.
Hope this helps

I think it's more rare to only have 1 AI disease. Read signature to see what I've got.   ;)

Guys, some of these things you mention are caused by CD, Anklyosing Spondylitis is thought of as an IBD related illness.
Anyway, as every old timer here knows I have CD & its tripple D**beep!** arthritis. Which is very, very similar to RA but moves from joint to joint. (what fun we've had).
I also have Osteo. (discovered last august). Imagine my joy.
1 illness **IS** the exception for us I fear.

I was recently diagnosed with Crohns as a result of a routine colonoscopy after the age of 50, my son and daughter are both Type I diabetics, my daughter's thyroid failed at age 7, and my brother has rhematoid arthritis.  We are one autoimmune deprived family!!!
