Is anyone going to the CCFA Educational Symposium in Chicago on March 29th?

I just signed up and I am looking forward to the sessions on new surgical techniques (Dr. Fichera), IBD Therapies for the Crohns Patient (Dr. Hanauer), Safety and Effectiveness of Medications (Dr. Sales), and To Eat or Not to Eat (Joan Kanute). There were 16 sessions to choose from and it was hard to pick out just 4!  There are also session on UC and another on colon cancer too.  I went to it last year, learned a ton, and it was great to meet people facing the same challenges.

There is also a great children’s program and teens program-

It appears that this is only for health professionals. I'd have to fib and register as a non-CCFA Member Health Professional. $75 isn't all that expensive - but travel to and accomodations in Chicago quite likely is!

I would DEARLY LOVE to be present at the Surgical Solutions (Traditional vs Non-Traditional, Safety & Outcomes) session by Dr Fichera!!!!!

Unfortunately, I'm already committed to something else the last weekend in April in KY and don't see how I can afford to do both.

Are there ever video/audio or transcriptions of these sessions available afterwards? I would dearly love to obtain the full session of Dr Fichera's presentation!!!!!

This is not for health professionals.....I have gone to this for the past 3 years. There is a professional course that is offered for nurses and doctors that run at the same time but it is seperate from the patient, kids, and teens tracks.

Thanks, Erica! Rats tho, that still doesn't alter my other committment and its expense. *sigh*

I did call my gastro's NP and she thinks that that is the conference my gastro is going to in March and if so will ask her to try to get some info from the Surgical Solutions session for me. I sure hope she is right and that that is the conference my gastro is going to!

The NP is going to go to DDW 2008 and said if there was anything of particular interest to me there she'd try to get that info for me too.

Oh fudge! Still too early yet for any real info on any presentations to be made at DDW 2008 yet. Its scheduled for May 2008. Just put DDW 2008 in your search engine to keep track of the scheduled presentations.

I was thinking about it. Is it possible to get to the conference center via CTA?

Not going this year. I was actually disappointed in the offerings this time around. Though, anything could be better than the woman 3 years ago who was supposed to talk about women's issues and fertility; instead she did a basic intro to IBD and then took only a few questions on the assigned topic at the end. It was SO frustrating, everyone there already knows about the diseases... that's why we were there.

Let us know what you learn though. Enjoy the free stuff too, I still have a huge stockpile of pens from all the drug reps. :)
Currently in remission!

Are there any Professionals going? I am a nurse but also have Crohn's colitis and would benefit for my own health issues and for continuing education for my nursing license. Are the sessions different for patient/family vs. professionals? I would like to go but have a friend that is not a nurse or Dr and wonder if we could go together? I would probably have to go to the patient/family sessions but maybe I could still obtain CE credit for this? Anyone know the answer to this. Thanks, AKG

Inflamed...I was at that one too and the following year (last year) it was much better. They had 2 seperate women's programs last year Dr. Kane (women's issues excluding pregnancy and fertiliy) and Dr. Mahadevan (pregnancy and fertility). They also ask people to hold all questions until the end of the program to ensure that the presenters got through all their materials, asked people to write down their questions during the presentation on index cards which were collected at the end of the session and were then given to the presenter, and they had 15 minutes for q&a at the end. It was much better organized and less frustrating.

I am looking forward to hearing Hanauer speak and the surgical solutions with all the advancements that they have made with laproscopic surgeries. My cousin is on the path towards surgical intervention so I want her to sit with me and learn!

I live in the area and was thinking about going if I can.  I will post here if I decide to go. I am not sure if it will give me anything I need though and don't want to drag the family along.

AKG, when I went to the URL that Erica first posted (she then corrected it) it took me to the Professional section and I'm sure I remember that Nurses did get CME credit(s).

And if I remember correctly all the same sessions were offered in the Professional section, including the times, as for the family sessions. But my memory is not always the best.

Hey thanks!  This sounds really cool and useful, I just have to figure out how to pay them, I am not comfortable giving my credit card number online to places that don't have verisign testing and so on.  Can't wait for the conference :-) :-)

This conference is excellent! I always learn a lot and it is so nice to meet or see other individuals and families who also have IBD. I also enjoy speaking with the exhibitors too.

HI Lisa!

I met you and Ally last year at registration-don't worry I don't expect you to remember me because so many people were coming up to the two of you to tell you two what a great job you have done with the law.

Lisa - What's going on in Springfield on April 11th? I live in Springfield. Let me know - I'd be glad to help if I'm not in labor and/or recovering from childbirth. :)

I'm not sure about April 11th, I'll know by the conference if I'll be able to take the day off. I just started back at work this month and I am want to see where my work load will be at that time. I took 3 months off (had a protolectomy) and I just feel really lost at work right now.

Beth,

April 11th is IBD/Ally's Law Awareness Day. We're expecting resolutions from both the House and the Senate as well as (hopefully) a proclamation from the Governor. There will be tables set up for groups like Get Your Guts in Gear and others who want to participate. We will be setting up meetings with legislators. Rep. Ryg and Ally will most likely speak as well.

If you know of any GI groups that want to have a table, let me know.

Hopefully you will be able to come too! When are you due?

Thanks for asking! Please tell anyone who may want to come.

Lisa

Erica,

I totally understand. I hope you are feeling better and not too stressed with work.

Take care and I'll see you next month!

Lisa
