I'd like to know if anyone has tried the Specific Carbohydrate Diet and if so, have you seen any results?

We use the Maker's Diet, but have gradually begun implementing some of the SCD recipes, too. The diets are quite similar with respect to what is allowed and not allowed. Crazy Harry once posted a compare/contrast of the two diets. Maybe someone can pull up that link.

Oh, and welcome to the forum, FaithInOZ! Can we call you Faith? Or Oz? :-)

I know there are members who have used this diet and had success with it.  I am sure you will be hearing from them.

Also browse our threads and you will find more then one that speaks to the diets and Crohn's.
Take care

Some testimonials about SCD can be found on Amazon if you look up the book "Breaking the Vicious Cycle."

For info about SCD you can check out:

Yes, I did it for 6 months. It was EXTREMELY successful for me. Within 4 days the blood and gas and cramping stopped. Within 7 days the diarrhea stopped and a lot of pain was gone. I didn't gain any weight on it, but it was the best I'd felt in 2 years! The only reason I stopped was because I was 3 months pregnant and went into remission. I'm convinced that it saved me from surgery and helped me get healthy enough to get pregnant and stay pregnant (2 prior miscarriages due to poor health because of the crohn's). I would recommend it to anyone. Give it 30 days. You have nothing to lose!

I have been on the SCD diet for 7 weeks and have been on remission. Actually got on remission about 3 weeks ago because I was doing the diet all wrong. It does work but you need to be persistent and love to cook!!

Diagnosed 8/99.  Suffered for almost 10 years.  I am currently on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet and am nearning remission.  I feel fantastic!  My next goal is to gain the 15 lbs I lost 6 weeks ago and start living life again.  I have lost so many years to this disease.

I decided to become a pharmacist to understand these drugs, and to help fellow sufferers of IBD.  My goal is to open up a pharmacy and take care of my patients(particularly explaining what the drugs do to you), compound special medications, and have a great practice.

3200 mg Asacol, 5 mg prednisone
