I've been have less frequent bowel movements here lately. They have also started to be really dark. Why or what causes this? Is something wrong? I thought maybe the change in frequency was because I've had to start using pain medication again and that usually slows things down. I've been taking stool softners though. I'm also on Asacol, Remicade, B12, Hydrocodone, Phenegran, stool softners and birth control. Any help?

What's the consistancy like? Is it tar-like? You should let your GI know...it could be all the stuff you're taking but I'd let him know...black tar-like stool is usually an indicator of bleeding high up in the GI tract and can be very dangerous.

I also forgot to mention I've just done a round of anti-biotics and I think I read somewhere that they could cause that too...?

I have been having that problem, too. I was having really soft stools, going 4-6 times a day, but now, it's brown/black & hard, little small pieces. It's crazy how you change back & forth one day from going so much to not hardly at all. I am on pain meds, too, but I was before when it was frequent, too, so it doesn't make any sense to me. One surgeon I saw said if it's not BLACK BLACK, but brownish black, or with black parts, it's not from bleeding. I don't know if that's true, though.
Live for today, for tomorrow you might just get hit by a semi.
