Took a while. I'm one of these "slow motion" crohnies. 7:45 this morning passed the Agile patency capsule "rod". The capsule itself had dissolved as it is supposed to. So - I'm pretty sure that the PCE will be a "go"!

AND, whilst there is some deformity at the TI/ICV area we've known about, I felt NOTHING as the still full size Agile capsule passed thru that area!!! Nor at any time passing thru the small intestine, meaning thru the old anastomois in the mid-ileum. Assuming that it was the descending colon just before the sigmoid that the Agile capsule was in when we did the abdominal xray, of course. I'm no anatomist or radiologist. There was no mistaking the capsule but just where it was at .... I was taking a guess.

Forgive me please for my lack of knowledge and being nosey ...

is this a camera capulse that you took for diagnosis ? , like a colonoscopy without the tube and nasty drink ? ,  or is it something that releases material for xray etc

again im sorry for asking but so curious to hear of new things to help

Palo,

The capsule endoscopy is a camera in pill form that passes and takes pictures through your entire digestive tract. C2 took a pill the same size as the pillcam, to see if it would pass unobstructed. If there was a blockage, it would dissolve but would let the GI know the pillcam would not be able to proceed.

You still have to prepare the same as a regular scope, but the camera takes pictures where a normal scope would never reach. One limitation is that you cannot take biopsies with this procedure.

Hope this helps,

Great C2! I've been thinking about asking for the camera pill instead of my having scopes done this year, as I've pretty much been in remission and don't see the need for biopsies(Dr will have different opinion). But, I also had my TI removed along with some intestine and have thought that this wouldn't be an option for me. I'll be anxious to see what happens with the next step.

Lamb, insist that they try the Agile patency capsule first. If it doesn't pass, no harm done, it will dissolve w/in 3-4 days. If it does pass then you should be good to go for the pill camera endoscopy. Keep in mind tho, that the PCE has only an 8 hour battery life and therefore is of no value for replacing the colonoscopy to get a look at the colon. On the other hand, Dr May always said that Crohn's has a tendency to skip UPWARDS in the GI tract, rather than down so the PCE can be a real blessing for many of us!

(By the way - the colon, the ileum, the jejunem and the duodenum are ALL intestines).

Well .... I've had my good, long, hard crying jag. My gastro's PA called w/the news. The capsule didn't pass. It wasn't in my colon as I thought. Not sitting at the start of the sigmoid colon as I thought and prayed. It flat never got out of the small intestine before dissolving.

So .... no PCE for me. *sigh* I'm sorry, but I feel like another serious pity party and crying jag is coming on so I'm going to go indulge in it.
