I do the PhosphoSoda prep. No way in h*ll I would ever do ANY of the Lytely preps again! I just can NOT do that much volume of liquid in that short amount of time to say nothing of the fact that it is such foul tasting sewer water!!!

Don't misunderstand: you still have to do that volume of clear liquid w/PhosphoSoda (at least you SHOULD to protect your kidneys, etc.) BUT you can spread the volume out over a longer period of time. Not that PhosphoSoda is such great tasting stuff (under statement!)

As for timing: I didn't put that early morning scope PhosphoSoda instructions back in my file last time I had it out. *sigh*. I REALLY needed and wanted it for my last scope which was the FIRST early afternoon scope I've done.
What I would do is figuring the hours of the prep instruction for the first thing in the moring scope and then reconfigure that time frame to fit the scheduled time of your upcoming scope.

Try a google search. There's a variety of ways to prep w/PhosphoSoda and Magnesium Citrate, etc. Pick the one that sounds most convenient w/your schedule for the CC scope.

Good luck!

I've only ever prepped using the phospho-soda the day BEFORE the scope...

If you pour only 1/3 of the phospho into a full glass of clear cold beverage at a time then you won't taste it at all or notice the oily consistancy of it either...doing this 3 times in a row will get an entire 45ml bottle down, as you're suppose to take it with plenty of fluids anyways, then follow with plenty of water. After basically 17 yrs of doing preps this is the easiest way to deal with phospho soda.

Then I've always been instructed a few hours after doing the phospho-soda to take 4 dulcolax tabs (all together) with tons of water, this method has always completley cleared me out, I always eat mostly a liquid diet a day or 2 before prepping to avoid severe cramps from the prep and this has always worked out well for me.

Defanately do the phospho-soda the day BEFORE the scope. Because after taking it you will be on the pot with in an hour of taking it and will not be able to move from it for more then a few mins, for a couple hours after taking it.

Do clear liquids (no red jello or gatorade to keep you from getting dehydrated

I do mine like a shot and follow it with more then a gallon of liquid.

I would also just do one bottle and as long as your pooping clear (liquid that looks alot like pee) you might not have to do the second bottle and the cramps from that.

It's advised to use clear rather than anything red, purple or brown since it can look like blood in the scope when infact it's not.

I was told to drink my last bottle of prep at 4am. I decided to do it at 2am instead. The nurse said it was no big deal as long as I drank it and didn't eat anything (no drinking after 7am for a noon scope). So, I think my suggestion would be to drink it waaaay sooner than 7am especially if you have a long drive ahead of you. By 8am I was only going once every 45min/hour and by 10am I was pretty much done with any urgent need to go.

Like MMMNAVY I did my second bottle shot style (using an egg cup as a shot glass lol) and that got it over and done with A LOT sooner than pouring the darn stuff in a giant glass of water. It also helps if you have some clear coloured juice like white grape or white cranberry to wash it down with.
Current:
Dx: Crohn’s Ileitis as of 22/02/08
Rx: 4g Pentasa (2 pills 4 times per day)
9mg Budesonide (one capsule 3 times per day for the next 6 weeks)

Pre 22/02/08: 2.4g Asacol (discontinued due to Crohn's Diagnosis)

WOW you guys doctors really do want to torture you. My gi has his patients on liquids the day before, then the day before the scope he has us put in small bottle of the fleet in 24 ounces of clear liquid and it must be drank within one hour. Thats its no more. Trust me this will clean you out. You can drink clear liquids all you want, but he says golightly and enemas and the extra stuff is nothing more than over kill. I have done 5 scopes with him and was clean on each one. Done his way you are running clear. After doing them his way if another dr were to tell me any different, I would just go along with him and do it the way my gi recommends.  Susie

I did the phospho stuff both the day before and the morning of. I also moved the time of the second prep up. The last thing I wanted was anxiety about still needing a toilet when it was time to travel to the appointment! So long as you don't eat or drink after the recommended time, you should be ok to move your second dose to an earlier hour and avoid that stress of the hour long commute!

Best wishes!

I've always done the phospho-soda the day before and was told the day of, that an hour before leaving the house I could do an enema to make sure the large bowel (colon) was completely cleared, to save from having any more bathroom trips while on the way to the scope.
