I didn't see anything on this in the past posts, but I never seem to get results when I search.  Is there anyone that has had both an epidural and PCA? (not at the same time)  I had a resection in November in which I had PCA and I am having another in April and I have the choice.  I was just wondering if anyone can share their opinions.

I have had both as well as a Ketamine Drip and I will tell you that I was up and moving the next day and walking constatnly to help with the healing and the gas. I did not notice any adverse feelings all though my diarrhea slowed down, which to me was a God send. They would not give you both if it was not necessary as there are adverse side effects. I am a Nurse so I do know what I was up against and what to look for in the side effect department. Goo luck with your choice and as always if you need for detailed info, please just let me know.

I have heard that the Epidural helps folks get to moving around alot quicker. But my one experience wasn't so great because it wasn't placed in the correct area to numb the right parts. I have always had good luck with the PCA and find I use less pain meds when I have the control. JMHO

Does the medication through the epidural make you sleepy like the PCA does? I kind of liked the fact that the morphine in the PCA made me go to sleep. Time went by faster for a couple days.
