Does anyone have bowel movements/diarrhea that wake you up in the middle of the night?  If so, how often do you experience this?
Diagnosed in October, 2003 at age 31.

Currently taking Colazal, Nexium, One-A-Day multivitamin
Secondary conditions: mouth ulcers, joint pain, extreme fatigue

Hello
If  I am on a flare I go up more than 6 times during the night, that makes me feel  very tired. And go more 10 times during the day either.

Diarrhea through the night is usually a sign of disease activity. You might want to try fasting for at least four hours before your normal bedtime to see whether sleeping on an empty stomach helps slow things down. If it doesn't you should probably see your doctor because your crohn's may not be under control.

In all the years that I have had crohn's this was the hardest thing to deal with and still try to maintain a work schedule. I used to get out of bed some mornings more tired then when I laid my head down. I used force of will to keep going. I wish now that I had heeded those signs and been a little kinder to myself. Really sometimes I just don't know where we get our strength from to endure the kinds of daily disruptions we endure and still keep going.

I am so grateful that now, when I am in a flare (like right now) and have one of those terrible nights, that I can just take it easy the next day.

It's definitely a sign of disease activity, it's not normal for one to be woken from sleep to have a BM...you best see your doc.

:)
My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it!  LOL  :)

Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking, too. :) Thanks for the advice!

Yup, my problem too. I don't have D, but it wakes me up at 4:00 am every night!
Live for today, for tomorrow you might just get hit by a semi.

This has been the story of my life! It's a rarity--even when feeling well--that I sleep all the way through the night without a bm. And 4:00 is my witching time too. Wild.

Mine is between 5am-6am. My boyfriend says my tummy makes crazy sounds!! haha I wake up and then its off to the potty!!!! I go about 3 or 4x with D before I leave for work and then I'm usually fine the rest of the day. I have been like this for about a year now (my dr. is still trying to figure out a medicine cocktail for me that actually works).

I know this sounds crazy, but it doesn't really bother me anymore. I kind of enjoy my "quiet" time in the bathroom each morning, I do crosswords, read books, make up songs about pooping. Anything to pass the time... haha

My husband tells me I'm the only person he knows who has to get up at night to poo. So yes, I have that problem too. Maybe my new meds will help. Good Luck, Kay
