Hmm...sleep for one full day. Then at my pace it might take two weeks to do the spring cleaning. On line games are fun and the used bookstore is right around the corner. Or maybe I would just sleep another day. After that it would drive me out of my mind if I did not have something to do-go visit my niece and nephews in west virginia perhapa.

Read all you can. I was on STD after my resection and strictureplasty and I thought I'd go nuts, but I didn't have the energy! I also became addicted to embarrasing shows on Bravo.

I was wondering if anyone knows if there is any rules about traveling while on short term disability. I live in ONtario and my family was planning a day to trip to the states to do some shopping soon. My cousin told me I am not allowed to leave the province while on short term, is this correct? I don't want to do anything that may affect my disability

I have also been on short term disability several times, it's hard to go back, I felt if it was my first day back on the job each time. Sadly I ended up losing my job of 22 years, I am now on SS disability. Yes I have lots of free time, but I am sick most of the time and moneys tight. I try to keep positive and sort of adjusted. not sure of my future though, good luck.

Have you thought of studying? There are *some* correspondence schools around that will allow you to do short, self-paced courses. I've done a few 100 hr correspondence courses while on disability and at least I feel (and can prove to people who think I'm just bludging) that I'm achieving something and working towards a new future for myself.

I'm reluctant to put the names of the schools here, unsolicited, because it may seem like an advertisement. However, if you're interested and would like to know their names, start a new thread with a visible title like "Hey, Ivy!" :-) and I'll answer.

And yes, reading is good too :-).

I have a LOT of penfriends - that helps ease the social isolation. Again, I can point you towards a good pen friend club if you're interested.

Ivy.

Hey there, re traveling for a day, I believe it is ok, you just cannot work for a pay check or be out sky diving or your not really qualified. :)

People are on disability for many reasons and if it were a mental health problem you may be traveling for therapy or to be with family but check ahead, it is always wise to be sure.

Take care.
