Has anyone else developed shingles after being on Humira?
I was diagnosed last Friday by the dermatologist...was due for my shot that night!  I'm now on anti-viral meds for 10 days and seem to be healing well.  I see the derm again this Friday and should be able to take my shot after that.  I'm just curious if anyone else has had this complication and what it was like for you.  I'm lucky that it is only a small patch, but the derm said there's a chance they could come back again while I'm on the Humira.  Ugh.
Oh, and the lovely GI clinic had no idea what the rash was when I was there earlier in the week!  I saw an intern and he was absolutely clueless.  I'm so glad that I was able to be seen by the derm before I took that next shot.

Have never had to resort to Humira, thank God, BUT, I was on Imuran at therapeutic levels but still had some minor symptoms so agreed to a short dose of Entocort EC w/a quick taper. Big mistake! I had PAIN for about 10 days, one trip to ER w/no Dx, another trip to ER the very next night and whilst there the shingles rash FINALLY appeared! I had very little rash, NOTHING like you see the horrible pictures of, but I sure had PAIN! Admitted for pain relief and IV anti-viral then released w/oral antiviral. ALMOST agreed to nerve block to hopefully prevent post herpatic neuralgia. Only the fear of a needle near my spine prevented me from agreeing tho I WAS desperate enough to actually go to the pain clinic and discuss doing so w/the doctor there. I still have some itching along the shingles nerve path on occasion (3 or more ? years later).

Actually, I sort of Dx'd the shingles myself. Whilst in ER the area of pain in the back on the left just at or above the waist line started itching and when I reached back to itch I thought I felt some small "pimples" or bumps. When the nurse came back in I asked her to take a look at it, could it be shingles. She took one look ... and off she went to bring the doctor back. They were just beginning to appear and even the doctor wasn't absolutely positive but was willing to go w/the shingles Dx. By the time they got a hold of my family doctor, etc. (you know how long it can take in ER, especially when a gun shot wound is brought in) the rash was much more apparent and the next doctor who came in to take a look had no question in his mind but that it was definitely shingles.

Some people are like Slinkies... Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

I started Humira in late october. After my loading doses I developed Shingles on the side of my face. Not much pain for me, but itched alot. I was told by my doctor to skip my next humira shot and was also given Valtrex and pain meds.  Shingles took a few weeks to go away and have not been back since. Only missed 1 humira shot.

Turns out there is a common link between humira and shingles.  I was diagonozed with shingles today and was looking for an answer whether or not to discontinue the humira while on the drug Valacyclover for shingles.  I think it is safe to say I will stop this coming injection and start up again in two weeks.  I wonder if the vacine for shingles is recommended for Humira users?

I got shingles 2 weeks before my wedding while on Humira.  It went away after 2 weeks and all was good again.

I had a very severe case of shingles about 15 years ago. Lasted for 3 months as they were not diagnosed in time for anti viral meds. Had post shingles pain (severe) for 2 years after. My doctor wants to put me on 6 mp or remicade in the next few weeks and I am terrified of a shingle relapse. The last time I had them I would cry for hours as nothing helped with the pain except muscle relaxers because I was having serious twitches at the nerve endings.

I was diagnosed with shingles today. This pain has been going on for about a week but I noticed it had started to decrease. My doctor prescribed me valtrex today. Now I'm feeling very nervous about being on Humira, it makes me wonder what other diseases I might get!
