Hello all.
I have been on Humira now for just about 2 years. I am curious about my Sed Rate being elevated to 50 while taking the Humira. I have to wonder if I am not responding to the drug like I used to. My joint pain is unbearable at times and I now have a Baker's cyst behind my left knee that has ruptured 3 times since July 07. It causes my leg and foot to double in size and yes, I end up taking prednisone for 15 days to deal with the inflammation. I did some reading up on the Baker's cyst and it said normally they do not hurt and rarely rupture. Anyone have comments or suggestions I am all ears.. thanks and good health to all!

Hi Lynn

I am on Humira, Imuran & for the past 2 years daily maintenance doses of predisone.  As of last Saturday I was able to finally come off the pred!  What other drugs do you take for the CD?  The dosage of pred you have described sounds like the dose that is usually given during flares.  I'm curious why you haven't been given the option of other supportive therapy?  While I'm not familar with baker's cysts I might suggest you consider compression therapy strength hose to improve your circulation in your legs.  Hopefully this will assist with the healing process.  Compression knee highs can be fitted over any wound sites however would require an Rx from your doctor.  Any compression hose less than Rx strength would not be therapeutic for you with the presence of swelling.  The Humira as I'm sure you are aware could be keeping the baker's cyst from healing as well.  I'd talk with my doctor about this. Any open wound while on Humira is not a good thing.

Thank you for reply broom... I am also currently taking pentasa to help control the crohn's. Maybe I should have mentioned that a Baker's cyst is most common with joint inflammation. The knee joint produces too much of the fluid which helps to lubricate it, at least that is what I came away with after reading about it. I will ask my Dr. about the hose you suggested. I hate taking prednisone for any reason now. I am 48 and already have osteoporosis which I assume was helped along because of so much prednisone therapy years ago. Not to mention not being able to sleep, being overly emotional and all the other wonderful issues that come with steroids.
Thank you again.. :)

I was on Remicade and my sed rate was 60, soon after that blood test I had a reaction to the Remicade. I never had a joint pain in my life until starting a higher dose of Remicade. Two doctors of mine do not believe that my pains were caused by Remicade and they have mentioned me going back on it and I am terrified of it now. Isn't there a test for antibodies you could take? I have heard there is one for Remicade but I am not sure about for Humira. At least in my case, I think my body was trying to warn me. But when I spoke my concerns to my doctors, they acted like I was crazy so I gave it another try which was a big mistake.

Yes, I'm now taking Boniva once a month thanks to the pred. Ask your Dr. for the thigh high version of the compression hose. Knee highs won't help. The compression needs to be ON your knee. By the way, even though these are medical hosiery...they do make some in sheer fabrics and different colors, some even come with lace bands if you're feeling froggy!

Lynn, how often are you taking Humira? I've also been Dx with Spondyloarthropathy and I need the Humira more for my joints than for my gut. I take 40mgs every week and it was initially prescribed by my Rheumy.

Are you currently seeing a Rheumy? Since you also have Psoriasis, it's quite possible that you also have some form of Spondy too and there are other meds which might be helpful.

I've come to the onclusion that my joints will never be pain free, but they are better now. I hope you can find some additional relief.

Keah,  I take 40 mgs every 14 days.  I believe this to be the standard dosage.  My Rheumy is the one who started the treatment.  I have never heard of the condition you mentioned...but I will read up on it for sure.  Thank you.
