Hi,
My name is Ashley and I am 23 years old. I found out I have CD at the end of January. I have been having problems since I was 18 years old but the doctors never knew what it was till I moved to California and went to a friends doctor. I just moved to a new state and I am having problems with getting a doctor so I am  kind of suffering till April 14th when I finally get to met my new primary care doctor. I have been noticing that some days I can eat a certain food and then other days I can't. Right now I am having a hard time with milk. I swell so much it is not even funny and some days I hurt so bad I can't even get out of bed. I have met many people with CD but really I am alone in this. That is why I came here to see if I can find some answers. I hope everyone is doing good and I look forward to meeting you all.

Hi Ashley! Welcome the HW, so sorry you have to be here but this is definitely a comfort place to be. Everyone here will offer you much support and wisdom. Finding the right foods is definitely a challenge, and everyone is so different as to what they can tolerate. Most of us cannot handle milk products, so I would try cutting that out of your diet for now and see if that gives you some relief. Are you on any medication? I hope your doctor appt. goes well, maybe you could talk to the receptionist and see if you could get in sooner and get on a cancelation list? Take care.

Welcome to HealingWell Ashley. Sorry you have to be here though. I agree with Smile, most of us cannot handle dairy products, so it is a good suggestion to cut them out. You could also try the lactose free milk. I can drink that without problems. Good luck and we look forward to hearing more from you.

Welcome!

I am pretty new to CD as well. You will find this board to not only be a great source for information but a "shoulder to lean on" as well. When no one close really knows what you are experiencing, the people here can totally relate.

Good Luck! :-)

As of right now I am not on any medication because I have not been to my new doctor. I hope everything goes o.k also when I see him or her.

Hello Ashley!

So glad you found this forum. No one needs to go through this alone. I think the hardest part is simply not knowing -- not knowing why things are happening to your body and how to deal with them (physically and emotionally). Over time you learn and it will become easier to handle. The good folks here certainly can help you along.

CD is a specialty. The doctors who typically know the most about how to treat CD are Gastroenterologists (or Gastro-Intestinal -- GI for short). You might want to ask your primary care Dr if you can be referred to GI who specializes in CD.

Here is good website for CD information and it has a Dr finder: http://www.ccfa.org/

Let us know how your appointment goes!

Good Evening Ashley, Sorry for what you are going though. Welcome, this is a great place for you to be. You definiately aren't alone. I always write my questions. down to take to the doctor. Also, in the beginning I kept daily notes, how many bowel movements, type, level of pain and took to my doctor so he could see what I was going through. You will have so much to discuss with your doctor it will help to have as much information with you as possible. I definiately can't do milk or the substitutes along with many other foods. You can kind of try by trial and error. Eating well, low stress, exercise are all important. Take care of yourself. Janice Oregon
