My daughter, who is 23 and adopted, has been having dizzy spells and headaches, so she just had a full blood work-up. they called today and said everything was fine except "her arthritis count was high and she should follow up with her doctor." what do you suppose that means?
thanks you guys. you are the closest thing I have to a mom who knows everything. yp

Her arthrititis count was high probably refers to Rhuematoid Factor, although I suppose it could refer to sedimentation rates or C-Reactive Protien. The last two are measures of inflation the first is a test for rhuematoid arthritis though an elevated RF does not neccessarily mean she has RA. She definitelly needs to follow up with her doctor and if warrented be refered to a Rhuematologist.
It is unusual for RA to present at 23 and to start with headaches and dizzy spells but that is how it started for me and I was 25. It is too early to be alarmed though, the headaches and dizzy spells could be a simple sinus infection and lots of people have elevated RF levels and never develop RA.

Hey Yoga! Yes, it could have been CRP or ESR or the rheumatoid factor, also could have been anti-nuclear antibody (ANA). There are so many blood tests that aid in the diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis and these are just a couple. But the results have to be taken into consideration with the rest of the pattern in the patient, so on their own they are not very helpful. Let us know how it turns out!

thanks Sarita and sjkly,
this was such a surprise and of course I get the useless call friday afternoon! she has had vertigo and headaches off and on for years. she often is achy, but I have never noticed any swelling on her. To check her inner ears and head they scheduled an MRI for her next week, which because she has a huge deductable, I will have to pay for. I need them to tell me if we should keep looking into this arthritis thing before the MRI.
it is always something! yp
48 y/o woman.  Diagnosed 4/06 after colonscopy, SBFT, CT-scan all showed crohns. 3 months later, after pred and remicade, all tests showed no crohns. December '06 had adhesions cut through a laparoscopy. Now taking Glycolax, Ultra Fiber Plus, Florastor, and DHEA. Have become gluten-free diet per naturopath's tests.
