Has anyone ever volunteered of help with one of these? It seemed like something neat to be able to help out with.

I applied and was wait-listed and when they called and said they could use me I had already scheduled an alternate vacation. I am not going to apply this year but I really wanted to do it last year. I posted the same question last year and I got a lot of responses from people who had either been to Camp Oasis or volunteered there. Im sure they will come along for you too.

I volunteered at Los Aangeles’ Camp Oasis for two years- the year before they moved to the Painted Turtle and the first year at the Painted Turtle. It was an absolute blast!! The medical center at the Turtle is fabulous and is totally there to help counselors too. I only did the IBD week, but it was great, the kids are amazing and it’s an extremely rewarding experience. If you have any specific questions, let me know.

I really want to do this, and the neat thing it is works out with my vacation. I submited my application today for the one in Fenton, Michingan, about 3 hours from where I live. I hope to be able to get involved with this and I hope I was not to late in submiting the application. The camp is in July so I guess Ill here something back one way or antoher.

Camp Oasis RULES! I LOVE Camp! It is by far one of my best experiences that and Team Challenge Crohn's & Colitis. If you have the strength and patients to be a counselor, DO IT! You'll need many days to recover, but it a rewarding experience. I don't persoanlly have the engery or patients, but I visit camp every year as a staff person for CCFA. I love seeing all those kids learning about their disease, sharing their stories with each other and doing things they never though they could do! It's absolutely amazing!

Hmmm... it was quite some time. Probably a couple months. I got an email saying it was received and that they were looking it over but the answer took a long time to get here. Part of me was sad... like geez, I just got rejected from working at crohns camp... but then I was happy that they have so many volunteers that they didn't need a new one. [Also, I used to be a juvie corrections officer and thought I had great experience working with teenagers but then I realized that my resume full of criminal justice jobs (probation, tracker, corrections) probably gave them the wrong idea that I would be too strict.]
